So much time Steve have worked in the mine, so many pickaxes and showels was created and destroyed in this hard job. So much distance was passed with the minecart. But times changed, new industrial age is coming. Cities grew up, progress isn't standing still. And those minecarts are not only things, riding on the steel roads.
Time for big railroads, it needed for developing industries, and just in few moments it will be of interest for companies as transport.
So, Steve concluding, that his lands needs new rails, big enought for locomotives and cars, that will deliver stuff from pits directly to factories.
And he have few ideas:
Create wider rails, for new bogie standard, it will consume approx. 2 blocks width, but will remain on center of the block. Since traincars is not a fridges on wheels, they can not turn in range of meter. Steve think, that needs much more smooth shape, maybe 12-15 meters at lowest, but better adapt shape to few directions, with 10 degrees step. I.e. not only NSWE directed rails, but also directed in needed route. Turn radius may be presetted as 12, 20 and 35 meters for all directions (or some other values, more suitable for trains).
"Yes, we need new forks" - he thinks. Because old switches for narrow rails was too simply, as this railways itself. And new ones needs to be normal mechanism, that will allow train to move on left or right way. Better create it as oriented tile-entity, where it can be linked to any-directed railroad. And in this case it will manage active way switching by itself, like his old cousin.
One moment good idea came to Steve's mind. Make even better rails with other type of placing, it means markers, that will manage already described above thoughs. Just not presetted parts with fixed angles and shape, but free(calculated) curves between end-points. It means 0deg entrance and 70deg exit for example, and it can be placed with our choice. Then fork, linked to parent's 70deg, with 2 exits, on 60degrees and on 110deg. About markers, there's already similar behavior for placeable heads, but not so much angles available there; also heads are multidirectional.
It should looks like that.

It will allow old 45deg-oriented ways.
But 1st - this is mod with all the features(needs framework and developer team supply), and 2nd - it can be difficult to use, if you want simplified management of new rails.
