So I was gathering nether wart one day, and as I head for my portal to go back home, a ghast blasts me and it cuts the portal out. I did not think to bring flint and steel with me. I am now stuck in the nether. I have my only diamond pickaxe, a long with a good bit of glowstone and nether wart in my inventory so I really don't want to die in order to get back home.
Seeing no alternative, I use a cheat mod to spawn another portal in the nether. I go through it and it takes me into an underground cavern, specifically, a monster spawner room! I think, maybe I can get some coal and iron down here so I can use my old portal to get home, but I don't have wood, and without wood, I can't make a work bench, and without a workbench, I can't make a furnace to smelt iron with.
I decide I might as well do some mining in this cavern, and you know what happens then? I step in lava and die. So now I'm back home, but I have no time to properly prepare myself because there is a chance I can get my stuff back and I have to hurry before it vanishes. So I jump in my old portal, through the new one in the nether, and run frantically back to the lava where I died and grab my stuff.
Now I'm back in the middle of nowhere again with no flint and steel. So I decide to just dig straight up and attempt to hike home from there, with no compass or map. Turns out I'm at the bottom of the ocean! It takes me all my air bubbles to get to the surface. Luckily I recognize an island off in the distance, so I know where home is and swim to shore.
I grab all the stuff I need and head back to the nether to fix my portal. I re-light my portal and add a nice big hut around it to prevent this from happening again, then head back home again through it. Except it doesn't take me home at all. It sends me to the cavern! So I destroy that cavern portal, dig up, swim home, go through my portal, and destroy the cheated portal.
FINALLY I'm back home and everything's normal.
