My Ladies Left Me
Luck be my lady, nay not my lord. Take form as a guide through the larking dark world. Be a companion despite being fickle, and never abandon in al final.
Even in crowds was I alone. On the road, at home, and out of all places, school. Not in the literal, but to be alone is not so. To be lonely is to have none among your peers to connect with, experience with, and live life alongside. It was in this way was I lonesome. My associates lived mindlessly akin to cattle, prepared to follow a single solitary track towards their inevitable unconscious slaughter. They woke each day, worshiped their cheap glitzy harlots, and slept once more, ready again for the morrow. Horrible wretched creature was I, fortune having passed over me too long. It had determined to chain me by surrounding mine person with shallow fools. But one late day, perhaps luck pitied me and in turn momentarily pulled me from the abysmal pit of despair.
She drew me to her. That great presence seeming to make the airs unseen current electric. Lustrous, creamy hair flowed from her scalp like so many waves of amber and piercing hazel eyes glinted below. I could have wished for no greater gift from fortune. For even beneath her brilliant exterior…beauty beyond comprehension. Laughter was common, yet discussion complex and swift. When she argued no quarter was given. Among her opponent’s minds would she romp, her own a delicate rapier which struck and stun without hesitation. Yet, despite this, kindness was her natural state and she was just as quick to reconcile and reassure with patience. Within a week she enraptured me and after the first night with her (which made me the luckiest mortal in existence) I would have sacrificed my pathetic life for hers without thought. Yes, luck smiled on me, and apparently straight after, frowned.
News arrived on the coattails of sorrow which soon enveloped my life until it was unrecognizable. Her circuit box gave out, a fire, and before the clock struck mid the flames had enveloped her. Soon after: “That’s the way the cookie crumbles. Crap happens.” My unassuming classmate said lamely. And then for me, everything became a red haze. In my hand appeared an aluminum bottle, bright red. Origin? I must have been lucky. From my throat thundered cornered banshees. The essence of anger enunciated by the hallowed notes of my sorrow. Its ring echoed throughout the halls, and then, my emotions took control.
And now I am at the heights of a massive precipice (regret devoid) from which I can see naught but darkness, alone once more. I have decided: Luck is but chaos in guise and our world is ruled by it. So now I have determined, luck come and go without warning, I will live no more in such realm. Instead I’ll abandon one lady and join my lady in death for lieu of in life.
And leap.
