These are some complaints I have about the current Minecraft version.
What was MC prior to beta 1.7.3? I call it MC's golden days. You spawn in a randomly generated world. Mission objective: Survive. Show your world who's boss.Build whatever you want. It's all yours.
What was MC beta 1.8.1?n I call it the fall of MC. You spawn in a randomly generated world that you had previously toggled the structure generation. Mission objective: Survive at first, but then go exploring. Live in a world that is now full of random ghost towns and abandoned mines. Build whatever you want,n but watch your step or else you'll fall into a gaping chasm. It's mostly yours.
What was MC 1.0.0? I don't know how to say it. You spawn in a randomly generated world that you had previously toggled the structure generation and whether or not your world gets deleted upon death. Mission objective: Play the distinct role of a person who washed ashore, then travel to the End to fight a dragon. Live in a world inhabited by weird guys that look like Squidward. Build whatever you want, but don't get mauled by a dragon. And don't kill it unless you want MC to end.
Minecraft used to be an infinite game where you do whatever you want. Now, it's more of an RPG. With an End. And potions (although I actually do like potions).
Minecraft used to be infinite and free. It now seems like Notch is following the cliches of many different RPG's. I know I can toggle hardcore. I know I can avoid the End. I just don't understand where Notch is going with it all.
Please don't hate me in the comments. This is just what I think.

Though I don't completely think adding new things to waste time searching for is a great idea, some updates have added to the possibilities. Potions add some interesting bonuses and they're completely optional, enchanting makes Adventure or Custom Map loot more valuable and could be a source for a back-story to a sacred item, Ocelots... meh, Testificate trading is another completely optional subject. However, its getting out of control.
Remember the hub-bub before 1.0? "MINECRAFT'S GONNA BE FINISHED!OOOH!" "THE FINAL ADDITION!" Look how long the "finished" Minecraft lasted.
Summary:
Some updates add optional things, some add unnecessary things that turn out to be pretty cool, and some add pointless and (my favorite term to describe most updates)un-Minecraft-like crap.
The updates could be a source of interest, but it needs to end somewhere, before Minecraft is turned completely into an RPG that's only unique feature is blocks.
I personally loath change. Yet, my friends all rave about every new update. They focus on the "epicness", but they aren't focusing on the game its being implemented into.
Lightningstorm0, I basically agree with you; Minecraft has changed too much. It should stop.
;)
SERIOUSLY?!
