Hello!
------------------------------
Today I dug up an old skinning tips blog I made AGES ago, and I'm fixing it all up!
Here are a few tips on how to improve your skinning and make things a little easier:
1. How I like to shade smooth clothing is I first color in all of the area with a medium shade, then I get a much darker shade, and make little dots in the corners ( I also do this with skin ). To make a dark shade a tiny bit lighter, increase the opacity. So I do that and keep adding to the dots I made in the corners, if that makes any sense.
2. When making girls' eyelashes over black hair, make the lashes a deep deep purple, so that they don't blend right in with the hair. Also, on lashes, try to add 3 different shades of dark grey, instead of solid black. This will make it look more shaded and overall better :)
3. When there is a single line of color going horizontally, for example, striped socks on a leg, shade darker on the inside, then get lighter as you go outward.
4. When I make things that go over a gap on the skin, like wings on the back, that kind of go onto the arms a little, color on the sides on the body and arms, so when the character walks in game, it won't look like the wings, or whatever else, have a slice in them.
5. I'm sure this goes without saying, but when you make some puffy hair or headwear on a skin, make sure to use the "helmet" section of the skin! So that was the head won't look flat and un-detailed.
6. When making hair, it's a good idea to map out the hair-covered area before hand in black or white, so you know where to put the hair.
Anyway, I hope these helped a little! Thanks for reading :P
