Steve displayed his treasured things
that glint in the light of the fire.
And I, though as important, I
must sit in the cold and desire.

Steve craved speed, and wanted more;
he dreamed of the dare and adventure.
That day he left I watched with eyes

The waters froze, the flowers grew
I watched the frost creep, I heard the birds sing;
the shadows darked, and ivy grew where
Steve displayed his treasured things.

And I, though as important, I
just watched and let the time pass by.
My presence was never enough, though I tried,
but the world came a-calling, and he must reply.

Steve might return, of this I am sure;
when he does, a great joy will transpire--
with thoughts of cheer once more on my mind I
now sit in the cold and desire.
