Below the number of diamonds, and beneath the upload, lies a more subtle section. It is loved by many, and despised by others. Yes, ito s the good old-fashioned Comments Section!

On PMC, you can post a comment on any submission, saying almost anything. However, the only order you can read these comments in is in the order they were posted. Well, in this blog I will express a new idea I have for comments, the top comment.

Table of Contents

I: What would it be?

II: Why would it be helpful?

III: How exactly would it work?

IV: Closing

What would it be?

Well ito s actually very simple. On Youtube, you can o likeo a comment, and when a comment receives enough o likeso it becomes the o top commento which appears over all other comments.

Well, why dono t we have this on PMC? You could o diamondo comments, and then they would appear as the o top commentso before the other comments.

As I always say o If ito s good enough for Youtube, PMC deserves it times 10o .

Io m going to be honest; I dono t always say that, that was the first time.

Why would it be Helpful?

This would be a great addition for PMC because of the amount of unseen intelligence there is in PMC. For example, on a popular blog, one might see a lot of comments that simply say o Coolo or o Nice blog dude, diamondo .

Then there may be another comments, ones that are long, intelligent, and interesting. Because of the amount of short simplistic comments, this comment might go unnoticed.

Some comments deserve to be seen, and they are sadly going unnoticed!

How Exactly Would it Work?

Ito s so simple; you wono t believe your eyes! In the right hand corner of every comment, like in uploads, will be a little diamond symbol.

By pressing it, youo re diamonding that blog. The 3 comments with the most diamonds become the o Top commentso . They are shown before the other comments.

You could also select the comments to be in o Most-Diamond-Ordero where blogs are shown not in chronological order, but in order of diamonds.

Finally, to make this even better if a comment of yours is ever diamonded, you get 1xp. This would inspire people to make better, greater comments.

Closing

Well, I think this is one of the best ideas I have ever had for PMC. If you agree, please diamond, it would be great for everyone to see, and maybe even Paril. Maybe this could exist one day. Top Comments!

What would make this a higher consideration, is to maybe find a unique thing, rather than just diamonding. Since those are already on uploads, it would be better to have a different name for them. Just a thought ;)

That is just awesome. Every single comment on this blog is super long XD your newest movement is already having an effect. Another idea for your diamond comment thing would be that if you got to the top comment, you got 10 XP, 2nd 7, and 3rd 5. Also, down voting comments would be a good idea. Maybe it would be... creeper-ing the comment? Also... 50th comment! And, of course... "kule blg dood dimnd"

Yes, it is interesting, the comments an idea can stir up. Although... I can't help wondering: If top comments did exist, which one would be top on this blog.

I think this is a great idea. How ever I would also like to see down-voting of comments, this would make i comments become a little more controversial and make commenting more common.

I would like to edit a bit your idea. There could be a top comment function, but not like on youtube, that there is a n number of comments at the top. It would be like the more diamonds your post has, the higher it is, vice versa the more minus it has, the lower it is. That way we could clean the trash, and give the crown to intelligent people. I hope you get my idea :D

I do get it, and in fact, I say that very same idea in my blog. I say you could arrange the blogs in "most-diamond" order also. These are the same thing. So yes, I like your idea, and I had that idea too :D

The problem I have with youtube comments, is that some comments are replies on other comments. Introducing such a voting system on comments could mess up it's continued readability and understandability, so i do think having the comments chronologically sorted initially is very important. Having a button that sorts the "top voted" comments in a decremental fashion however would be a good idea.

I don't agree with connecting the voting system to the XP system. There are enough people that abuse the XP system already, and introducing this to the comment system would make the abuse much worse. Besides, PMC should not be about the experience points, but about the experience itself.

Apart from the XP for voting, I think the voting could actually work.

I agree the xp is not necessary. I do think it would be nice. While there would be abusers, this system would inspire tons of people to make better comments. I think the xp abusers wouldn't get their comments to be top comments, because they're comments aren't good enough.

And yeah, PMC shouldn't be about the experience points, but you seem to be saying the xp system is bad. IN reality, it is great. While some people post terrible things in pursuit of xp, others love it.

I for one, love seeing the bar raise. It shows me that people admire what I say, and then it gives me titles. I think it is a good prize system. In fact, if PMC didn't have it, I don't think I would have ever started blogging. Of course, now I know there are more reasons to blog, but I like the system.

I like the idea of this system, but it seems to have a lot of room for abuse. Especially when comment upvotes give xp. I know that every system of getting xp on PMC can be abused, but comments are far harder to track and regulate (note that you cannot flag them).
I also have to point out that (judging from the youtube and PMC communities) there might be a trend of the top comments being something quoted from the first post in a way to sound witty or clever, which people like more than comments that actually add something to the discussion.
I agree with Bleyd that using diamonds for comments is a bit overusing them, especially with so many other Minecraft items available, such as gold nuggets.
I have to point out though, that downvotes consistently lead to abuse and were removed from PMC for a reason. Flagging comments would be a much more effective (and less abusive) way of handling it. Maybe the chat mods should handle that kind of flagging.

I was actually going to put in a section on a down vote system, but it seemed controversial.
The whole xp system being abused would happen, but I think after a while, it would majorly die down, because anyone commenting stupid things like "Please diamond this comment" wouldn't earn any diamonds.
While comments can't be flagged, the author can delete them, and authors that really care about attention whoring comments could delete them.
And finally, so what if the top comments are trends or funny lines? I think on PMC these won't really be top comments, as here, there are few videos, mainly forms of writing or art (projects, and skins)

Instead of diamonds, it should be gold nuggets or something similar, just to differentiate it from submission votes. Perhaps we would have gold be a positive vote and coal be a negative vote, since the downvote on submissions is gone. This would especially help to get rid of the spam - a certain number of downvotes and a comment will automatically be hidden, especially helpful for server adverts, online shopping spam, and thumbs up whores. Just an idea.

How about "editor's choice" comments? The person who posted the project/blog or whatever can choose comments to be put up at the end of the article itself, like Ars Technica does at the end of their news posts.

One of the problems I can think of with that system is if you got site exp for getting a diamonded comment - kids would endlessly ask "dimondo el commento plz"

That "editor's" choice comment is also an awesome idea!

Sure, people would comment things like that at first. But after a while, they would realize no one diamonds them, and they would leave. Comments like that could also be deleted by the uploader if he cares.

I agree. Sometimes people put something in their comments that matters.
About 85% post comments like ''Awesome!'' or ''Cool.''
If your idea could change the comment section into a interesting place, (I always read comments)
