Hello everyone! For those of you who don't know me, I am coolkevin867. This will be my first real blog about something that gets me somewhat irritated from time to time. Thanks and enjoy :D
Thanks you everyone for getting this on the popular reel!
Thanks you everyone for getting this on the popular reel!
Introduction
I know of many people who make great work. They are extraordinary at what they do. But what seems to happen every now and then, mostly to new or less popular users, is that they make something absolutely amazing, but only get a few views. I know that many bloggers have touched on this topic before, probably more in depth than I will. This, I believe, has happened to me before. I'm not trying to brag about any of my work, but I know that some of my stuff should be a little more popular than it currently is. I saw something like this yesterday, where I was flipping through the skins on PMC and came across something really good. It had intricate shading with high contrast. It had all the aspects of a top-quality skin. The only problem was that it had been posted for weeks, and only had about 20 views and 3 downloads. I usually see this true with skinners and sometimes bloggers (although it does apply to all subjects).
More In Depth
Let's be honest with ourselves, almost all of us have seen skins, blogs, etc. that are great, but don't have much popularity. We've also seen stuff that's not too good, yet it has thousands of views. I'm not saying any of these things are bad, but they aren't what should be on the popular reel for a week. I know I get frustrated when I make something that I think is good and it gets less views than something else I made that was much worse. If you want to see an example of this, click on the "Examples" tab below. What gets me especially irritated is that people who are already popular can get thousands of views and end up on the popular reel, even the stuff they made isn't that good. This doesn't appear very often because most popular users on PMC are popular for a reason (because they make amazing stuff), but it happens often enough for me to see it every now and then. Many times I've also seen people get mad about not gaining popularity. I think that this is the opposite of what people should do. If they make good stuff, they will get popular at some point, even if it may take a while. Many people give up too early. I have almost done this many times and I am now glad that I didn't give up. Coming back to the subject of popular users getting views for stuff that isn't necessarily top notch (ha, see what I did there), I think that there are some things that don't need to be posted. An example of this is live streaming times. Don't get me wrong, I love watching people live stream, its one of my favorite things to do, but for it to end up on the popular reel seems unneeded. I think a solution to this would be to post all live streaming events in one blog, because for something like this to get more popular than a blog someone worked on for literally hours, seems unusual to me. None of this means the right thing to do when something really good isn't popular is whine, complain, or even quit PMC.
Examples
I have seen many examples of this, but I don't want to include other peoples work without their upfront permission. So here is some stuff I have created:
This is a skin I created. At the time of the post, it has 3 diamonds, 26 views, no downloads, and no favorites. Here is another skin I created:
This depicts a cyborg and was my first real attempt at developing my own style of shading. At the time of this post, it has 25 views, 4 downloads, and no favorites. Here is yet another one of my skins:
This skin, at the time of this post, has 1 diamond, 9 views, no downloads, and no favorites. Keep in mind these are all okay skins, not great, but okay. Here is something a bit different:
This skin has 1 diamond, 41 views, 7 downloads, and 0 favorites. This is more popular than any of the skins above, but I wouldn't consider it better at all. This was in my early stages of skinning, where I didn't shade anything. Although this isn't a great example, it gets my point across. Just because this skin is based off of a popular video game (Assassin's Creed Revelations) it gets more popular than something I spent hours working on. There are many other examples like this and probably better than this. This is just in my case.

Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many unfair disadvantages when making a project, skin, blog, mod, etc. Many of them, although they may be better, don't get as popular as some of the things made by "experts". This shouldn't discourage anyone and, even if you feel this way at times, you should get over it. Quitting PMC is not the answer, keep making great stuff and you will get recognized for it. Thanks for taking the time to read my first real blog and please give me feedback. I hoped you all liked it and remember to diamond, favorite, and subscribe :D

So what if you're stuff doesn't get popular? YOU made it, be proud! and most importantly, have fun!
And that's my advice for the day :)
I could understand the frustration a lot of people go through sometimes. There is nothing more frustrating than taking a lot of time to work on something, only to have it completely ignored. Even worse, to have it ignored, and something that has absolutely no effort put into it gain lots of popularity. Much too often I myself have experienced this.
