Setting up a server on a Mac can be a more daunting experience than previously expected. Here are a few steps, tips, and tricks to get you going.
Good job! You're done!
- Download "Log Me In Hamachi" here. https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/download.aspx
- You'll need the minecraft_server.jar from the download section of minecraft.net. https://minecraft.net/download
- Take that freshly downlaoded .jar file and put it on your desktop if it isn't there already and make a new folder and place the .jar into there.
- Got to the link near the minecraft_server.jar file and follow it. www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server Take the navigation at the top if the wiki to OS X.
- Look for a little box of code.
- Now, make a new TextEdit document. Make it plain text Unicode-8. This will prevent it from being an RTF.
- Paste the block of text you copied and paste it into the document and save it as "start.command".
- Drop the document into the same folder you added into the folder. Now it's time to make it available and give you permission to run it.
- Open Terminal by going to Spotlight in the upper right hand corner (magnifying glass).
- Type "chmod a+x " into terminal. Make sure to leave a space after the "x".
- Drag the start.command into terminal. Wait a few seconds and hit enter.
- Now to set up Hamachi. Open Hamachi.
- Click "create network" when it opens. Add a password and name of the server and click save.
- Now, open the start.command file and when the server starts and finishes loading the spawn points, open Minecraft.
- Go to the Multiplayer and then "add server". Make a name for the server and then enter the IP. The IP is in Hamachi on the top below the power button. Looks like this > 5.10.193.212
- Add the IP into the server IP box then add ":25565" to the end. No spaces.
- Click done, and join you're server!
Good job! You're done!
