Everyone deals with griefers and grief in different ways, but with the way I've learnt how to deal with them is very much different from what it was 2 years ago.

Now to put this in context, when I first experienced grief was when I built a tiny little farm house on an old RP server I used to go on, I revisited it and found that there was holes all over my build, I was frantic, panicked, I called my friend to help (Staff member) and on further inspection, I noticed a sign inside, I can't remember exactly what was said on it but it was along the lines of:

I have griefed you --- Visit my youtube channel ect.

I was furious, I had never experienced it before, and had to rebuild as the server didn't have any sort of grief protection before hand.

So my reaction before wasn't really that positive, and from then on I desperately panicked whenever I encountered grief.

2/3 ish years later and I can tell you that now my reaction to grief has changed, since then I've become an admin on a creative server, and I deal with grief daily.

Now minecraft plugins are much more advanced and it's possible to roll back certain blocks, which back then my friends and I had no experience with.

I've calmed down since then and have determined that grief is something that is easily sorted, (provided the proper measures are put in place in the first place!)

When you find someone griefing, or find the grief itself, it's not the end of the world!

In this blog post I'll be showing you what I have observed in people's reactions to grief and also give you some friendly advice from my experience!

WabYjpng

Like I've mentioned before, reactions can be different, I've listed a few common reactions I've seen, and put them in pretty coloured speech bubbles! Let me know what you would call each of these reactions?
(Yellow = .... Red = .... Green = ... Orange = ....)

ypsrWapng

Which one do you mostly fit under? and obviously there are more categories but these are the most common recent ones I've had to deal with.

I'd say I'm more green when it comes to grief! :P

How I would label these reactions:

cZyWKrypng
From my experience the best way to deal with grief is to not panic, to realise that they achieve nothing, the grief can be rolled back! I'm not scared of people doing this any more, in fact I find it quite fun to catch the griefers and simply ban them, job done. Let them feel dat glorious ban hammer, cause lets face it, they're probably expecting it. What exactly do they achieve in breaking your blocks? And what do you achieve from panicking over it? It's okay to feel this way if it does happen to you, just remember that as long as you're on a good server, with active staff and the proper grief prevention plugins then it can be sorted fairly quickly! So hakuna matata my darlings!

You've gotta have a dr.Pepper mentality on this... Umm you know? "Doooctooor pepper, what's the wooorst that could happen?"

Except... Replace it with... "It's juuust griefeeers, what's the wooorst that could happen?"

(It's okay, server staff can use their sexy ban hammers too!)

And for those of you that are just starting new servers/In need of a plugin, I recommend a plugin called Log Block, however there are many other plugins that can help you, this is the one is the one that I'm most experienced with, and seems straight forward to use!

I suppose I'm justramblingnow... But hey ho! Thank you for taking the time to read this blog, it isappreciated!

And if you liked it then don't forget to:

Hahah, this! This was a brilliant read! xD I can relate to so much of this, especially the "Others reaction" part. I hear stuff like that daily. It's funny how some people really get a heart attack, literally.. xD

I'd fit in under the green one personally, although, I'm usually the one who takes care of the issues where I play xD

Yeah Hifey! Glad to see that you've made a popular blog post :O

Yellow = Some regulars
Red = Most regulars
Green = Some donators
Orange = Most donators

I'd say i'm more in the green area. And maybe, just very, very small, very very partially, a red for hatred. Just a bit. A bit. (riiight)

Anyways, glad that you've made a blog post. It's awesome :O

Guys if you haven't checked out her server it's at hub.awkwardgamers.co.uk and it's the "Creative Server".
It's the best server there is :D

I'm actually mod on a server that has the rollback thing. And the other day I caught someone griefing a really big build at one of the warps. So I teleported to a pool of lava, holding out my knockback diamond sword, and teleported the griefer to me. I started asking questions:
'So, in a few minutes, you're going to be banned, whats your response to that?'
Responding:
'lol i just griefed half ur server so u gotta restart.'
'Well no actually, we can roll back your grief and act like nothing ever happened.'
'...'
'Yeah, that's right, you accomplished nothing doing that, all you did accomplish was getting banned, anyway, I bid you farewell!'
*ban*
Twas one of the best moments being a Mod :3

Ohh I've done this thing where the griefers were boasting it'd take ages to fix what they'd done and that they were recording themselves griefing, so I said 'OK' rolled them back right infront of them then banned them xD... Needless to say, they edited that out of their video! :P

So on the server I play on, I got griefed recently. So I decided to get under his skin until a Staff Member came on, but it was just me, the Griefer, and a V.I.P. Rank guy. I /msg'd him to get on Skype and get a Staff Member. So, I decided to stall and get under the guy's skin.
Hilarity ensured.
I got under the Griefer's skin by just bugging him and being mean.
Now, I'm not a mean person, but he sort of deserved it. I mean, he was griefing!
So, I said stuff like:
"Do you do this because you have no life and wanna feel excepted?"
And:
"Are you just stupid, is this why you do it?"
Also:
"You must have no life. Destroying someone's town in a video game? That's just low."
He got really annoyed. You could just see it. At one point he screamed in chat:
"OH MY GOD KID STFU!"
It was a fun day. Also I'll give you his name:
xXtrenDXx
Oh, you wanna know the funny part? The Griefer is internet friends with someone I know irl. . . He's a Griefer too.
xD

I personally use CoreProtect, to restore or rollback blocks. WorldGuard + WorldEdit, to create claims for the players. LWC, Automatic lock on chests and other stuff. AntiExplosion, 'cause lets face it, tnt can only be used for destruction. At last MyHome, for a faster way home! :D

I also use some gamerule changes.

Firespread Off - /gamerule doFireTick false
MobExplosions Off - /gamerule mobGriefing false

This is a great setup for a server! :D

You see, my server tried out CoreProtect once I think? It didn't seem to work for us at one point...

Then again the server I'm on is creative, we used to have a factions PVP and the faction claimed land worked well :)

Thanks for letting me know your set up though :3! I find it always helps to know how other people do things too y'know? :P

I always play on faction PvP servers, where griefing is allowed, so my approach is somewhat different. This is a theatric version of what happens:

Me: Dang it!, Guys, we got griefed again ... and our horses are dead!
Friend Number 1: NOOOO! Not the horses!
Friend Number 2: Not our beautiful base! How could they?!
Friend Number 3: They missed our diamond stash! ...but they took all of our butter and iron.
All together: Time to kick some butt. [plays Two Steps from Hell in background]

Then we either create the most über faction on the server, get our butts handed to us, or get banned for taking things way too far. #ThatEscalatedQuickly

Ahh yes, those servers are always different though! I -always- feel a sense of revenge and want to obliterate those that have griefed my base haha! Though with creative servers I'm a lot more calm about it now :)

I've always been staff on servers and I ban instantly, regardless of how bad it is. I have zero tolerance for griefers.

I can understand where you are coming from, on the server I'm staff on, major grief is an instant ban but lighter grief and stuff that we're unsure of results in a final warning ect :O

Some people do genuinely not mean to grief, and when its literally a couple of blocks, we give a warning. We used to be really hard on griefers, but over time we have calmed down and given people more of a chance, basically because its not really a massive issue to roll someone back.

When I was on server I used to be admin on I saw someone greifing right in front of me and I was typing up his name for the /ban when a mod banned him. He got all the credit and glory then he got admin and I got mod :(

He was such a "hero" xD

Ahh I always end up taking bans from mods haha! I get there and then type it out without realising that they're there... When it comes up in chat though, it doesn't say who banned them so it's okay on that part haha!
