Here are some plugins I've used which may come in handy if you're setting up a new server:

- Essentials - This does a lot, including /sethome /home /endersee /getpos /tp /tpa /tpahere /tp /tphere /tpaall /who /spawn /give /weather /time and much more.
- Factions - It's a good way for players to group up and grief-- sorry, fight one another. Make sure there is some objective beyond simply fighting for the sake of fighting. Unless you're forcing factions to complete for land/resources in a small space, people will just end up getting pissed off because other will grief them just for the hell of it.
- WorldGuard - This not only lets you protect land from griefing, for example a spawn area, but it also lets you do things like add a greeting or farewell message when you're leaving an area. You can also use it to do random things like prevent snow from melting or mobs from spawning.
- WorldEdit - This is very useful and every bukkit server should have it. You can cut/copy/paste blocks, use brushes for building, find and replace blocks, and much more. But be careful as it could crash your server.
- Deadbolt (Or Lockette) - This lets players use a sign to protect chests.
- PermissionsEx - It's not perfect base on I've read elsewhere, but it's worked flawlessly for me. It lets you create groups that inherit perms from each other, allows world or user-specific perms, and chat prefixing. It's a little tricky but you can just do /pex to see all the commands.
- CoreProtect - This is great for rolling back griefing. But, be careful because it can eat up GBs worth of space over time.
- Multiverse-Core - This lets you have multiple worlds. Useful if you want to set up an area for an arena with its own unique permissions.
