Living in this rural area can be tough, really tough. But it can also be fun.
Like my dog spike. He is a AMAZING dog, I would do anything for him, he loves me, and I love him.
Me and my brother, where going Hunting, we live in a very rural area, we own about 30-50 aceres of land.
It is awesome, having all the quite, but can get boaring sometimes.
Spike was a blonde Lab, his fur was really soft, even though we bathed him once a month.
Tomorrow, we are going hunting with him for the 3rd time, he did really good the last 2.
I was really excited, but I convenced myself if I sleep faster, I can go hunting sooner.
So that is what I did. I slept like a baby to my older brother told me.
In order to hunt, we had to wake up early, at about 7:00 AM.
I got up, yawning and scracthing my back. I walked over to our closet to get out gear.
My shoes compared to my older, he looked like a giant. We woke up Spike and we headed out with our rifles, as usual.
Spike hurried along, he was trained to be quite even when he spirnted.
Walking I noticed a Elk. I asked my brother in the softest voice "Can I take this shot?"
"No, this one is mine, you can get the next one.
I sighed but said "Alright."
1 shot to the lung, it was still limping but Spike ran over and bite it's neck.
It then collapsed.
We found out it was already ill and wasn't worthy to eat.
"Gosh darnit!" My brother said in a low pitched voice.
"The next one will be better I am sure! I said in a enthusiastic voice.
About 3 hours later, we saw another elk, this time, a Female.
It looked healthy enough for us to eat. Like my brother said, I could take the shot.
I aimed my rifle steadily, and Spike took off after it to soon.
I fired.
The elk ran off as I never shot it, I was confused, that is when I heard Spike whimper.
My heart almost stopped.
I ran over there yelling at the top of my lungs "SPIKE!"
He was whimpering and bleeding rapidly, he was going to die in a matter of minutes.
I burst out into tears, I was only 15 back then.
That dog had been my best friend since I was 10.
I not only cried, but I started yelling "GOD DAMMIT! WHY SPIKE! WHY?!"
My brother just stood there with a sad face.
"It wasn't your fault Daniel." my brother sad in his usual deep voice.
"It is all my fault, all mine. Now spike is dead because of me!"
I continued to cry, as my brother carried his body.
When we got to the house, me still crying, he put spike in my hands.
His pulse then dropped, he died.
I continued to cry for the rest of that day.
My parents nor did my brother shed a tear.
I coulden't sleep, knowing my best friend had died.
I really wish I never went hunting. None of this..
Would have ever happened.
