I decided (with the help of my daughter) that the lighthouse would be made with sandstone and piney wood- the sand is abundant close by, but the wood is not- I gathered up a good amount of sand, made sandstone, emptied my pockets and headed for parts unknown-
A Bed, Some Food, and A Little Bit of Luck
now anyone that knows me, knows that I get lost so easily- I thought my plan was foolproof this time- head to the big land and follow the coast to the right- no land on Minecraft is so big that you can't follow the coastline till you end up back where you started, right? ... right?
well, ya haven't met ME yet! in my defence, I did pretty well for the first few (MC) days- I kept close to the water on my right, and the big land on my left- I only traveled inward a bit from time to time so as to smooth out the jagged edges of the coastline- several nights sleeping on beaches, in little clearings, and atop high hillsides led me to more and more land- this place is ENORMOUS!
I can't remember how long I'd been gone or how far I'd gotten at this point, but off in the distance I finally found some piney woods! I headed inland to the mountain they were on and got quite a bit of wood to take back, along with alot of saplings- and then it happened...
I was sooo happy to finally find the trees i'd been searching for! I chopped and gathered and replanted (always give back what you take) for a whole day I think- I got a good nights sleep, a good breakfast (it's the most important meal of the day), and headed back on my way home- well... I chased around that mountain and got so turned around that I forgot which way the coastline was-
I know what your going to say-
"why didn't you mark the path you took to the mountain? torches, sandpiles, SOMETHING!"
I can hear the words ringing in my head, and you are absolutely right- but, at that moment, all that was stuck in my head was YAY! I finally found some piney wood! my search is over! (bouncing all the way to the mountain)- Ooooo, pretty flowers! I should take some of those- I can make some dye and color my sheep... maybe when I'm done on the mountain- Oooooo! the mountain is getting closer! Wow... this is one big mountain- (starts climbing) Oh M G! I think I see llamas up there on that peak! I love llamas... (still climbing) they are so cute! if I had a pet llama, I would name him...Bowreguard! get it? Bow-(they shoot snott like arrows) re- (just a filler) Guard- (he would protect me from those nasty zombies!) Lol, such a funny animation =) I know I wrote about it on my first post, right? ... oh crud! where did my piney woods go!? oh, this a way... finally here!
(whilste chopping and gathering) Boy, this is one big butt mountain! I will name this mountain (even though I'll probably never see it again or even remember that I named it) Big Butt Mountain!
Ok, so now you know where I'm at and my mindset- it was all good till I climbed down the wrong side of Big Butt Mountain and got so completely lost in the woods below- everything is kind of a blurr after that- several days of wondering, hoping I'd find swampland (I did remember that there was some close to my island) I had contemplated killing myself, but sleeping in so many places and then taking the bed with me, I had no idea where I'd end up respawning- I did come across some horses and a broken down illager outpost- I wrote down the coords to those two places, and then I realized... my spawnpoint! I wrote that down in the very beginning! I'm saved! now if I can remember where I wrote it down... searching, searching, I really should clean up my desk... found it! (at least I hope it's the right one- I have several on different little sticky notes) when I checked my coords and compared them to the spawnpoint I had written down, my heart sank a little- if this is the right one, I'm about, oh, a thousand steps away in one direction, and about five hundred more in the other...
One step at a time honey, One step at a time-
I got here and I can get back... (at least now I have some direction) it's funny, the closer I got to the spawn coords, the less familliar it looked- I passed by more piney woods much closer to the ground than Big Butt Mountain, and many other things that just didn't look right- long story short, they were the right coords and I did make it home- the reason none of it looked familliar is because it was all to the LEFT of my island! if I had embarked on my journey going in the opposite direction, I think it would've taken a couple days instead of weeks!
We learn from our Experiences
I learned that the Big Land is more like Whopperland! I also learned that on my next expedition, I should keep my coords close and safe, and bring lots of torches!
I think this is where I will bid you all a fond farewell until my next post- I'm back on my island with the materials I need to get this thing going up! hope to see you next time!
