Hello! PixelProh here, to help you know who to promote, and how to be promoted on other servers as a server admin or an owner.
WHO TO PROMOTE?
Many Owners promote users that they trust. NONONO> Never promote a user because they are trusted. That just means they won't grief. To prevent griefing, I suggest you download a bukkit plugin called coreprotect, makes fixing griefing look easy in one command. But anyways, make sure you know the users age, gender, and a bit about them. Do not staff your friends just because they are your friends. Make sure they are staff on a variety of servers. Make sure you have skype or something as a backup incase a troll staff/hacker bans them. Very important, find out the users age. Make sure they aren't 25 and don't have a life, but make sure they are at least from 12-17 years old. Young ages don't know how to moderate, trust me on this. If the user makes an application and you approve of it, tell them can be a premod rank. You don't want to start giving users too many permissions too fast. Also, make sure the user will stay on a good amount of time. If the user is from a different country from you, thats GOOD. That way, when you are offline sleeping or so, they can be on because of different time periods. Just make sure they talk the same language as you! On a multiplayer server, staff are either too nice, a little bit strict, or way too strict. On your server, you want to be way to strict. On other servers, you want to make sure they aren't very strict, so you have a better chance of getting a rank. When you first join, READ THE RULES RIGHT AWAY. Staff can always turn invisible and watch over you. Always have your mods or hacks turned off if you have them, don't even ask if you can have them on. Ask staff a few questions that signs didn't answer, because there is always a bit of info you can recover. See if they have an application system, and make an application there. SHORT APPLIES= NO STAFF||||||| LONG= CHANCES Make sure your application is VERY LONG, staff like to hear juicy bits of info and find out what kind of person you are, the rank, or to help out. Never ask for ranks. Let the staff take their time to decide.
BONUS: HOW TO GET YOUR SERVER POPULAR
The basic way to get your server popular is posting on PMC, and other websites such as minecraftforums, or whatever. Make sure your server is playable and fun. Do not advertise your server on other servers, this doesn't work. Youtube is a great place to get people joining. Make sure you have a good amount of subscribers. Doing Lets Plays is a good way to get popular there, also tutorials or animations.
