This is going to be the lame introduction part.
So recently there have been alot of fuss over skins (How expected) and i as a regular joe have decided to leap in this annoying, already dead topic to get attention and hopefully make a point instead of doing something stupid - that i would useually do anyway.

So, haters and skinners avast yourself for rage because i don't care a single bit.

Where to begin, what has everyone else been talking about? well if you havn't read the title it's about the whole "Skin Stealing" thing and before you say "ogm u r steeling mai ideia ov a blog how dr u cheeky bugga', dis blog offended mee so mch"
1) If you're offended too bad
2) I've taken ideas from many people, not just you (One person in the comments who mention this)

Now, where to restart, this whole skin stealing thing in the blogs has gotten just a little bit out of control so, yea.

Skin Stealing
So  finally we reach our topic, Skin Stealing
"Skin Stealing is where by one person downloads a skin that they did not make and upload it to another website, claiming ownership without permission"
Ok so pretty bad stuff right? it's theft after all so it has to be abolished! well... No, it cant and i don't think it never will. what do i mean by this? well the skin you the artist uploaded is now on the Internet, somehow someone else will find it if it's removed from the original site but still, someone will find it somehow. Well what causes the skin stealing issue? well sites like Miner's Shoes allows someone to find a players skin and download it, now i know this is bad but hold on. Consider this; A player sees another player with a nice, cool looking skin, the player then goes onto a website to take or "steal" the skin that another player had, maybe they want to show the world this nice, cool looking skin on PMC so they upload it. Then you the artist rage that they "Stole" your original skin, well true they did somewhat "Steal" your skin however it was unintentional and was simply a misunderstanding, i'm not saying this is the reason for skin stealing but i can say it does indeed happen and it is only one issue to the subject. Perhaps another thing to consider is that some people do not have the skill to create good skins and they need something to work off so they mix skins together. This leads into the other thing PMC skinners are getting salty about

Part Stealing
Now this in my book is utterly stupid.
"Part Stealing is where by a user/player takes part of a skin and uses it for his/her own skin"
With that said, it's still stealing right? so it has to be abolished! well, again no it cant because of simple logic, people complain about parts of their skins being taken or stolen and put on bad, unoriginal skins but do you have a moment to think about how that "unoriginal skin" looks in it's uploader's eyes? to the uploader the skin looks perfect and he/she is proud of it's creation. For the teen girl skins things get very silly, artists complain about body parts like hair, or even eyes being stolen "I saw my fringe style on another skin but it was just coloured differently" this is stupid, if you create shape and texture it's going to be used, that's how the internet works. Maybe the user who did "Steal" a part of a skin was not able to draw good hair so he/she needed a template to work off. It's like someone who made a shading template rages when they see a skin that used their shading template.

As someone studying art i know that an artist takes good care of his/her's work, things work easier with stealing in real life than the internet, if i draw a masterpeice that will be the only masterpeice i have created so nobody can copy it unless i make another one, but even then there will be something off about it, it wont be perfect. But on the internet if you make a masterpeice then someone can copy, download and upload elsewhere because it copies as a perfect duplication of the original. If the person says "This skin was 100% drawn by me" when it was just stolen, yes that's fine, report them but maybe consider this;"Made by me" That phrase could mean many things, maybe if the user mixed two skins together that would be her that she mixed the skins together instead of saying it was drawn by her. If i make something with stuff next to me, like a bottle of Fanta, and i use it with cardboard with say a box of Cheerios i made two things into one but do the compainies care what i did? is it obvious that i didn't turn my own plastic into a bottle and make my own fresh cardboard? No. There is no need to complain about this in the blogs because people already know about the skin stealing thing, talking about it is just beating a dead horse i mean we're becoming so low we are acting like the people on Deviant Art where by we go to other websites and remove skins that people "Stone" and i find this to be extreamly sad because of how low some people can act, why else would the "Edit Skin" button be there if the site didn't want skins to be created and stored on the website?

There are risks that artists know about and a real artist knows about these risks before they act apon what they do next.

PS - I know i'm a hypocrite because i know i'm beating a dead horse so don't be salty about it in the comments.

I agree. It can't be stopped. similar to how everything else gets stolen/copied. (game hacks, game mods, art, etc.) It should stop but it can't. I couldn't have said it better myself. and ideas? people have similar ideas sometimes.

Dude, I totally agree! All these blogs about stealing skins need to just suck it up and stop. The internet is massive, there is no way anyone can stop it and complaining isn't going to help.

Lawl, I like you PS. Anyway, this is a well written blog, but it is stated in the Planet Minecraft rules:
The following list is a partial list of different ways of creating content that are not original work. Interpretation of these items is based on the consensus of the mod team and will be used if there is confusion.
 • Generating content with a program

 • Tracing an existing work

 • Using parts of an existing work in your own work, also called remixing
7.1.2Edited Content
When you are modifying a work that was created by someone else, you absolutely must follow the guidelines below. Failure to do so will be treated as stolen content and will result in the removal of the submission and a ban placed on your account. Follow the guidelines below if you would like to create a modified version of someone else's work. Modified work is not allowed in any form in the Skin section, regardless of the following guidelines.

 1. All modified content must have the permission of the original creator to modify or use the work. Proof must be provided at the top of the submission and be either specific to you, or broad towards all users in the community. Stating who originally made the work is not permission, and you are never allowed to post someone else's work on their behalf, regardless of permission.

 2. You must change a significant portion of the work. The general rule of thumb is that if it is not very obvious that the creation is different, the item is not allowed. This also includes changes made to your own submissions such as multiple colors of the same skin, which should all be loaded to the same submission.
But I think people should just silently report it, instead of ranting about it all the time.
