This is something I had said in a comment on vivaminecraft's blog post Minecraft is Dead.
I think more people should see it and I think it gives some clarity about our Minecraft community (and possibly other communites as well) and how our evolving society is changing it and the game.

A new generation of gamers has come into this world of creativity. What do they do with it? Some continue its creativity, others just use it, and some destroy it. Our society is changing. People these days want stuff to be there for them, no questions asked as to why or how. It's just there. But what happens when they tire of those things? They crave more from us, the creative players who slowly lose hope for this world of creativity that was once ours. We are expected to somehow whip up something new and ingenius-something greater than the last.

The game itself is evolving into something new and unknown. Where it leads is hard to see, but time will tell its fate. What was once a building game with no direction has turned into a quest. The dragon that has waited for us now holds a key to something bigger than its End. The game's community ever so slowly turns into something that of stone-still and cold and dead.

The End is nigh, but which is closer?

If you are a modder, you can probably relate to this the most. Your fans constantly demand updates to newer versions of Minecraft is quite annoying. I am sure you agree. Many of them do not understand what hard work it takes to make the good mods. The dedication and time spent on it is something that many of the new generation(s) cannot comprehend.
They only see that they have a lot of stuff available to use, yet they do not see the potential of its creative use. Grant it, original ideas and creations are harder to come by nowadays, but that does not mean something better can't be made from it.

Addressing the upcoming 1.9 update, the future of Minecraft and the direction it is taking us is unclear. Like I had said, it started as a building game. It was meant to inspire creations from the imagination and also build friendly relationships between its players. Now the game has changed significantly. Survival of the fittest seems to play a role on many PvP servers. Players have turned themselves into factions and other smaller groups. They don't interact very much with other strangers unless there is a problem or they get into a PvP fight. It is almost like the community has turned into cold-blooded killers who seek the destruction of others.

Of course the creative area of Minecraft has not died...yet. There are still dedicated servers that encourage building to the heart's content, but within restrictive "plots." But still the players are divided. They do not work together. They can only stay within their "plot" and look on at the neighboring builds with admiration or disgust.

I am not saying all servers and players are like this, but it seems the majority of Minecraft's community is doing this. Society has evolved into something different and thus changes the future of Minecraft and its community. What will become of Minecraft? Of us, the community? Will Microsoft intervene and make Minecraft and the Mojang company hated, thus leading to its and the community's end?

The End is nigh, but which is closer?

The Minecraft Community Is Long Dead In My Opinion. I Lie When Ever People Ask Me What PC Games I Play Because The Minecraft Community Has Strong And True Connatations To Younger Players.

I disagree. PMC is a good example of how the MC community is still alive. It is not thriving like it used to be, but it is still around. Eventually it will become "dead" with incompetent kids trying to copy the creative user's work from the good 'ol days. Minecraft and its community will die a slow and very painful death.

Viva creativity.

From experience, I have found that mods that require basic computer knowledge and reading ability to install can scare off 99% of children.

lol xD
Some might be "scared" away but most ask the same dumb questions:
  • Where do we download the mod?
  • Can you help me? The mod doesn't work. *Mod owner asks for logs, idiot doesn't give logs*
  • Where is the link?
  • What does the mod do? (Yes I have seen this question asked a few times before and the mod description is literally the first thing you see)
*sigh* Kids these days.

Yeah, there are many that make those type of suggestions. * cough* mini-games *cough* Newer players on a survival server suggest adding mini-games. When I see that, this is my face: -_-  Like really?
They want an "all-in-one" packaged deal from servers so they can be lazy and not look for other potentially awesome servers.
Anyways.....
The ignorant children are the generation(s) in the community that have not been taught by society (*cough* parents *cough*) to respect other individuals and their work. Some may have learned to respect, but they tend to not show it online-all because it is just a game. (GTA is a good example of the "it's just a game" idealogy, but I'm not hating on it.)

Yes that is sadly true in most cases (90% of servers and Mincraft's playerbase).
As more children are introduced to the community, more than often Minecraft is deemed a kid's game. Minecraft is quickly dismissed as "child's play" by the (usually) maturer audience due to the increased amount of younger players (and omg their horrible Youtube videos).
Many of the new generation of society want ultra HD graphics in games. They believe a game is "good" because of this factor. MInecraft as we all know has simple graphics so that anyone can play it with the minimum hardware requirements. This new generation do not understand the effort and costs involved in such high-end graphical game development just to make the sky and trees pretty.
*sigh* our society is mean :'(
