I am busy so sorry for not so much activity, even for me, anyways happy 2015 and here is a review on space engineers, a game I got for christmas.

The game is a sandbox block based game, much like minecraft, even has survival and creative. The difference is that it is set in space with realistic graphics, physics, and space stuff :D Unlike minecraft the graphics are sick, in the good way of course. Here is a nice example:

Sadly there are no planets and such to explore, you get your resources in survival by mining asteroids, you have objects such as the refinery which allow you to make more items. You have health, energy, and such and is quite great. Enemy ships will occasionally float by and meteor showers can occur. You can build big or small ships which are too different catagories, you need to add a generator and fuel it, and you need a gyroscope to orient you space ship and of course you need thrusters on to move, make sure to have a cockpit to control all of it.

That was the basics but here are the real impressions:

1) Getting into the game; It is quite complicated even for me so it took me quite a while to figure out the basics to building a space ship. I had to look a ton up. And that was just creative, survival was extremely complicated. It takes time to get into but I think it is worth it.

2) Controls; once you learn all of them they are natural and pretty well oriented. It is just a mess figuring them out in the first place. Such as toggling the intertia dampeners "z"

3) Survival; quite realistic and slow paced as you would expect, great fun but no story, much like minecraft

4) Creative; as always a fun creative tool that gives you infinite energy and blocks so you can make what ever you desire from space ship or space station

5) Physics; if you thought that was good, this is the strong point. It calculates mass, acceleration, speed, and volume all into account when moving and coliding. Crashes are the best, when you smash a block it doesn't merely break, but it bends in crazy ways and debrees are sent off far away. If you want a full functioning ship you need thrusters on facing EVERY direction, because how do you stop if you don't have thrusters facing foward, not like you can lean on air resistance.

6) Multiplayer; you can create factions and you can go against or with other players, this is quite fun and you can play in both survival or creative, and lan or global. Having other players extends the games fun but it isn't that big of a mode in itself

7) Building; feels natural, right click to place, left click to delete, but rotating block is where it is weird, you need to use insert home pageup delete end pagedown keys to rotate, very confusing, even if you are fairly used to it

8) Content; great variety with blocks but weapons could use improvement. You can have gravity generators in big ships, and interior lights and doors, cause not just large but HUGE ships you can just  walk around in. Plus you have ramp and angled blocks and triangle corner ones with glass, heavy armor, frames and more. Plus you can paint every block the color of your choice. Sadly the weapons includes gatling and rocket launchers with the turret version of both. You can use the mining tool if you wish though. Vareity is fair at most but it is early access meaning the game isn't even done yet! Good and constant updates.

9) Soundtrack; great ambient songs, awesome explosion and crashing effects. GREAT SOUNDS OVERALL

10) Overall, although this game is unfinished and can get boring, it is very fun creative tool which allows you to make realistic ships and stations from scratch. I rate 8/10

Space Engineers is in early access in steam for 20 dollars currently and not avaliable for mac users yet, I think

I've seen a few videos on it and it looks interesting, but I don't think I could ever play it by myself and have fun. Are their large servers for it yet like there are for Minecraft? Or are they all primarily small or private?

Most small user made ones, it is in development and quite a new game so big servers aren't a thing... YET

Why do you have a review of another game on a Minecraft fansite? ;-;

The blog section is primarily used for non-Minecraft related things. If you check out the art blogs you'll see very little minecraft art. It's mainly a section used for people in the Minecraft community to talk about things other than Minecraft. If you know that people like the same game as you, as everyone here likes MC, maybe they'll like another game you play. It's just a nice, happy little place to talk.

"Reviews: These blogs provide a constructive opinion about a game, Minecraft feature, server, or other item." It seems to be OK with the rules of the site and it is a game that would appeal to minecraft fans
