So, I thought I would show you how I shade my skins because I feel like it. I am just showing you how to shade the clothes, but I guess you could use it for hair or skin if you wanted to as well.
What you need:
-Photoshop / Gimp / anything that can handle transparency and layers. (you will know it can handle transparency when the background is checkerboard)
-An unshaded skin
-Basic skin making knowledge ._.
Let us begin shall we?
Step 1: Would be to block your skin with a dark colour, or the darkest shade on your palette (if you use one)
Step 2: Make random shapes in each body part, for example, Body Front/Body Left/Leg Right. And you want to make the random shapes with a much lighter shade than what you used for the base, or the lightest shade on your palette.
Step 3: With your next darkest colour (a bit darker than the lighter colour you just put), you are going to make an edge around the lightest colour, and then in places where it is 4 pixels or larger you add pixels and then leave a space. So for example [][][][]
[][]
Step 4: You want to do the same as step 3. Make your shade a little darker and outline the shape you previously made.
Step 5: Repeat step 3 and 4. Now it should look like a knit cotton or wool sweater... Yeah so we only needed 6 shades, and wherever your base colour is showing, leave it.
Step 6: Now you want to make a new layer and paste all the stuff you just did onto that layer. Make sure not to get any of the stuff you aren't shading on this layer. Stuff we shaded = yes, go on new layer / Stuff we didn't shade = bad, don't go on this fabulous new layer.
Step 7: On your new layer you want to select one body part, for example in the picture I selected the Body Right. Select only ONE body part at a time or else it will turn out yucky.
Step 8: Select the BLUR tool (it's the one in the shape of a tear) and set the rate or the blurriness to as high as it can go (mine goes to 100). Then set the size of the brush to as high as it can go (mine goes to 10). Now click anywhere on your screen and watch the magic happen. You can click on it 1 or 2 or 3 times. I clicked on it twice to get this look. The more you click the blurrier and more blended it gets.
Step 9: Now you are going to repeat step 8 for everything you want to shade. And this is the finished result =^.^=
So yeah. This was my first blog and tell me if you want to see more or what I can improve on. Hope this helped you guys! Please leave a comment, I would love to hear what you have to say, and YAH!
