Tired of your everyday mobs? Borerd with seeing the same identical creatures day after day, biome after biome? Do the stale and familiar faces of monsters take the thrill out of exploring the dark places of the world?

Well, then come on down to Big Alt's Exotic Mob Emporium, your destination for new and unique mobs skins - from silverfish to dragons, and much much more!  You want realistic looking squids? We got that!  You want pink fluffy creepers?  We can do that! You want Endermen in historically accurate French Naval Officers uniforms from the Napolionic era? We, uh, well...  yeah, sure, why not?... we can get that for you!

We here at Big Alt's aim to please. Go on, take a stroll through our stables/library below and see if anything strikes your fancy.  See something you like? Well then, just locate the indicated texture image and adopt the little critter right to your computer.  You will have to insert the skin into your desired texture/resource pack on your own though - Big Alt's only offers mob skins, not texture pack services.

Enough jabbering, let's have a look at those mobs!  From time to time we'll update our mob stocks with new creatures and skins, so don't forget to check back every now and then.

Ocelots, Cats, and KITTIES!!!!    >^..^<
Grumpy Cat  ( skin texture here ---> undefined)
Everyone's favorite furry internet pessimist!
undefined

Pokey  ( skin texture here ---> undefined )
Pokey is Tardar Sauce's (aka Grumpy Cat's) brother.  He can look a bit grumpy too, but to me he just looks extremely confused and bewlidered most of the time.
undefined

Cheshire Cat  ( skin texture here ---> undefined )
The master of non-sensical riddles, here's the Cheshire Cat himself!  as he appears in the Disney animated film "Alice in Wonderland."
undefined

Squids and Cephalopodia
Dr. Zoidberg!  ( skin texture here ---> undefined   --OR-- undefined )
Futurama's very own cephalopod doctor. Here's two versions of this skin: Bored Zoidberg, and Surprised Zoidberg. Woop! woo-woo-woo-woooop!

undefined

SQUIDTHULHU  ( skin texture here ---> undefined )
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Squidthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
undefined

OCTODAD: Dadliest Catch  ( skin texture here ---> undefined  )
This is from a fun little game with a very interesting mechanic.  You play as an Octopus. An octopus pretending to be a human. A human with a wife and kids.  No one can know your cephalopod secret, but try looking (and walking) like a normal person when you have eight arms and no skeleton! You can also find the player-version of this Octodad skin in my regular skin submissions.
undefined

NAUTILUS  ( skin texture here ----> undefined )
The Chambered Nautilus: "Nautilus pompilius" is one of nature's more fascinating cephalopods, these creatures have chambered shells that follow the golden section - a mathematical ratio that, among other things, creates an infinite spiral loop.

undefined

Silverfish and Creepy-Crawlies
GRUBS  skin texture here ---->   undefined
Eeeewww! grubby little grubs!
undefined

LEECHES
skin textures here ---->
   undefined  OR  undefined
I'm developing some these two leech options as part of a "secret" resource pack/map that i'm thinking of developing.  Which of the two do you guys prefer?
undefined

CATARPIE  skin textures here ---->  undefined  OR  undefined
USE PIXEL ATTACK!......  it's not very effective.  (which of the two versions do you guys prefer?)
undefined

LEGGS  skin textures here ---->  undefined

FINE PRINT (always, ALWAYS read the fine print!)
User Althestane takes no responsibility for the functionailty of these skins with respect to specific texture packs, resource packs, or non-vanilla mods to Minecraft.

"But wait!" I hear you say. "What's the catch?" you say. Well, that's a mighty fine question. Big Alt's Exotic Mob Emporium is a 'non-profit organization,' so I can offer these mobs for the low low price of zip! However I do take kindly to generous offers of diamonds and fave's.  If you do decide to adopt one of these critter skins, please give credit to their creator (Althestane) and link back to this here blog. If you're interested in incorporating a skin here into a downloadable downloadable resource or texture pack, please ask for permission first.

Hope you enojy the blog & skins! Any quesions about the skins or blog, feel free to leave a comment or a PM.

At the moment, unfortunately not, sorry. It looks like no one can even see the images of the mob skins. I never did put them all into a texture pack, and it seems that photobucket has removed all my images (which you could have downloaded the the mob skins one by one). I need to fix this blog at some point.....

Well, none of the skins here are texture packs, they're just individual .PNG image files based on the mob skin templates. Since i still haven't figured out how to actually make a texture/resource pack, it's up to the user to insert the image files into their own texture packs. If your texture pack doesn't work, it's likely because you made a mistake - sadly I don't even know the correct way to do it in the first place, so I can't help you fix it :(

I assume it has something to do with re-naming the files and replacing the existing mob skin files with the new ones, but I honestly have no idea. Plus, these are default size skins (part of the 16x16pixel format). If you're trying to put them into higher-resolution texture packs you may have problems - again, I don't really know how it works.

Can you make this into a "texture pack" basically listing them as "alternate skins" for the mobs?

I think i'd have to ask a PMC moderator for clarification first.  I know that they prefer posted texture packs to be relatively complete, so I don't know how they'd feel about one that would only include mobs.  I'll let you know if i can though.  It would be fun to load it up as a texture pack and start breaking a line of silverfish spawn blocks just to see the variety you'd get - kind of like "Lucky Blocks" but with certain, brightly colored, doom.

Well it would technically be a mob-only pack right? It's like an add-on pack. Idk though. Hope you can get it through.

All of us here at "Big Alt's" fully appreciate and welcome a competetive business environment - the market for exotic mob skins is wide open, and Big Alt's has no intention of creating a monopoly on mob skins.  We actively encourage the development of startup businesses offering even more varieties of mob skins!! (see the recent opening of "Risk of Rain services LTD" by Nusspfluecker)

In our efforts to promote new and exciting mob-skin developent, we are happy to strategize over trade secrets for the promotion and distribution of skins!  Our office is exploring possible tutorials on the subject, but our marketing department relies primarily on MCSkin3D, Photoshop, and Sketchup, to show off our exotic mobs to their best and fullest extent!

[ooc: go right ahead and try some mob skins of your own - i bet your style could result in some really cool mobs!  most of the renders are done with Sketchup, an easy to learn, plane-based 3D modeling program that has 'free-to-download' trials - it's how i do renders for the new 1.8 players skins as well]
Wooow thanks man for the advertising! That means a lot :')

I can not put into words how amazing of an idea this is. I truly hope you continue to make more and more mobs, as I love the variety.

As for some suggestions for future creatures:
Wolf: Doge
Chicken: Kiwi bird
Cow: omnomnomnivore (the purple one :D )

Thanks!  I've got a backlog of squids and endermen that i'm going to try and push out soon.
Heck, i want to create a whole new mob for the OMNOMNOMnivore - model and all!  I might try him for the cow though  - haven't really thought up any good cow-alternates yet, and that one might be good.

We here at Big Alt's are always looking for new and exciting opportunities to expand our services!  Our business department is actively researching the potential for resource pack production, and has already identified several exciting possibilities for development, maybe even including tie-ins to custom recreational adventure maps.  Big Alt's would like to stress, however, that this business initiative is still very much in it's fledgling state, and we don't want our consumer base to get their hopes up prematurely.

  • February 18, 2015, 5:14 pm
Sort of. These are just alternate skins/textures for mobs.  There are mods and loaders out there that generate 'random mobs' if you have more than one skin for that mob in your resource pack, but I don't think vanilla minecraft does that on it's own.  Yet. That's something they really should add (unless they already have? anyone know?)

After I post a few more types of mobs, i may gather them all in a Mob-Pack. Currently working on finishing up a couple cats, a handfull of silverfish, one or two iron golems, and a whole lotta squids. After I finish those, I think i want to try that pink fluffy creeper or the naval enderman i mentioned in the blog post :P

I've always wanted to try for a comprehensive resource pack, but found the actual process confusing. Perhaps i should forget about the process and just jump right into designing the blocks themselves...the technicalities could be sorted out later.. hmn....

Yeah, get the art done first. It is not hard to make a comprehensive resource pack. I don't think you will have any trouble making one. You have inspired me to make my squid extra cool. I am not planning on copying yours, they are so Awesome! I will make mine from images and then go in and make them to my style. I would really love to use your pack when you are done. I will keep watching. :)
