My sister, Becka, has Downs Sydrome. Downs Sydrome is a disorder that affects her appearance, bodily functions, growth, learning capability, etc. . . She is mentally disabled. On the bus, she would sit looking out the window. I had disliked my bus so I asked to get switched to my sisters bus. She rode the bus home with all the other regular kids. I began to sit with her on the bus she took. However, there was a kid named Stefan who sat accross from us. This kid was in my grade and he was a trouble maker. On the first day of riding on the bus that my sister rode, my sister wasn't on it. Stefan said, "You're not going to want to sit there, Chris, because the retarded girl sits there. She looks out the window and licks it all the time like a freak." I was disturbed about what had come out of his mouth. I wanted to go over and punch the living day lights out of him. I didn't want to say that she was my sister because I didn't want to get in trouble for it. I knew she didn't lick the window. All she does is sit there and breath hot air on it so she can draw pictures.

Soon after this my sister was being teased on the bus. Kids were calling her harsh and cruel names. I wasn't on the bus at the time so I had to learn about this through other mediums. As soon as I found out who called her names, I went on the bus and beat the sh*t out of them. I got suspended; however, my sister gave me a high five. I knew it was wrong for her to be learning these things. I told her later on to never do that to other kids as I had done.

The point of my story was to bring attention to those with special needs. My sister is one of millions who are disabled in any way.

Dude, tht was sad :(
My sister has down syndrome, and I get to ride the "short" bus (No offense) with her and I get to sit in front of another down syndrome child and I get to meet all these other neat kids with disablities :D (I don't have disabilities)

My big bro has autism, (its quite a bit like down syndrome actually) and he acts like this giant lovable 2 year old. I mean it, he acts EXACTLY like a 2 year old! He giggles alot, his nickname at school is Mr. Cuddles, everybody gives him high fives in the hallway, he has to have somebody with him at all times though, because its very severe, he cant talk, hes been spending the last 2 years learning on how to say his last name, he is the most lovable guy anybody could possibly meet. But one kid picks on him. But the best part is, the kid who picked on him got a little "talking to" from a couple of (almost the entire student body) students, it brought tears to my eyes seeing somebody stand up for him

The school bus seperates immature kids from people with special needs. Why is this not the case? While I believe in equality, understand children are immature and will pick on those different. Hence the reason for different buses.

Truer words never could be said. Ever. Gawsh, I know I'm guilty of this, we all are. We've all laughed at someone instead of laughing with them. They don't know. The last time I laughed at someone like this was...in 2009. I quit because I realized that was the reason I never fell asleep at night, and I realized that's why I was having bad dreams. I quit being that mean person, and I hate it when people laugh at someone like this. It's not right. We're all humans, but we're different in our own ways, so if you laugh at someone like this you might as well laugh at yourself, because you're different.

Thanks, Cinna, again for this wonderful blog post<3.
I agree with this

At my school there are several kids with downs syndrome, but no-one makes fun of them for it! Once they realize that someone has a disorder most likely they will stop. its not like anyone told them that.

"Beat the sh*t out of them" You never should do that. There is NO reason to back up the violent actions, even as a defence. Obviously, it was a meaningful and it is understandable how you feel about your sister. Maybe you should have turned around from violence and resorted to a clever, sly trick.

I hate to read about violence. Just remember to not do it again, mmk? :D?

Im sorry but thats rubbish if someone does that you definattly beat the sh** out of them some people can't understand what ''wrong'' is and have not been shown what is wrong so beating someone for such a cruel act is 100% write. (ps. no disrespect)

Well done my friend some people in this world don't deserve to get away with everything.

don't deserve to get away with everything.". Sorry..
Beating someone up isn't being a good brother.. It's just being a bully, EVEN if 'they started it' you explain your sisters status to them, or you tell a teacher about the situation.
telling someone dusnt really help. they will just continue.

Dude, obviously you've never had a sibling who's been teased so severely, the writers sister has no way of stopping them saying what they say, so she has to sit there and suffer. If a cat is hurting a mouse, your bring in the dog. Besides, if you hold something in, it comes after you... trust me, I Know.

Look, i agree with the both of you.
I think its inhuman for people to bully/tease and taunt children, people in general, with special needs, for they are human beings as well. But i don't think it was right to go ahead and bully someone else about it.

I used to laugh and point at those who were mentally disabled, but was when I was still an innocent 11 year old and knew nothing of respect and sorrow.
I hope your sister lives a longer life than most Downs Syndrome patients do.

I totally agree with you man, i was at a parade in my town and there was this child in a wheel chair. When the parade started, he got really excited and started to jump up and down in his wheel chair. There was this family, and they looked totally freaked out. The son, a teenager, (i am also a teenager, 13 yrs old) he started to point and laugh, I wish i went over to him and punched him, like you felt with stefan. You have my up-most respect and i wish your sister well.
Thanks for bringing this issue up. I heard that a mentally challenged kid was getting beaten up and when he beat the bully out, he got thrown out of school. that is completely ridiculous

Yes, what I suggest telling that trouble maker, instead of beating the crap out of him, is explaining the affects of down syndrome and how she is ill. I am a freshman in Biology, and have been studying genetic disorders and find them quite interesting. Anyways, I send my best regards to your sister, because the toughest people in the world are those that live with a disability and keep on going on with life. +1 diamond, I think this needs to be payed attention to.

i agree with you to the highest order. Its way unfair to treat people with special needs badly, especially because they can't help it. they were born that way, and can't stick up for themselves. Their lives must be agony, yet assholes still take the piss? dude, i'd HELP u beat the shit outta them. its the same for gays and black people. people treat 'em badly, but for no outstanding reason. I ask why? assholes of the world, if you're out there, why?
