Hello fellow Sandy survivors (and others) today I am here to tell you my story of my experience with Hurricane Sandy.
It was almost Halloween when me and my dad were watching the news and saw that there was going to be a hurricane in a few days. So we got our stuff together, calked down the doors, and taped the windows. But we didn't know that those things wouldn't be enough to keep Sandy off our backs
Day 1: The Rain
The first day of the hurricane was minor flooding and a lot of rain. Me and my family were unfortunately all on our electronics, so the power went out that day around 4:00 PM.
Day 2: The Wind
On day 2, it was getting windier and windier, knocking trees and bushes all over our neighborhood. We figured that it was going to get pretty bad so we calked up another door and put a tarp covering an easy flood entrance in our backyard. That still wasn't enough.
The Night That Sandy Got Us
It was around 9:00 o' clock PM when our friend came over. He brought a small generator to power our fridge and 3 outlets. It was good for a little bit. At 10:00 water started coming in the house We couldn't fall asleep, we were tortured the the howling of the wind, and the cracking of trees falling. By about midnight, there was a foot of water in the house and we managed to get a few hours of sleep.
The Next Morning
The next morning was horrifying. We saw all of the damage that Sandy had done to our house. Trees down, a pond in our front yard. Our house was an island! Stranded out there, we couldn't evacuate because we were trapped in our houses. We held through that morning and pumped most of the water.
The Aftermath
We went out for a car ride, me, my brother and my dad. We dropped of our friend's generator and my dad went out and bought a new one. We still continue to pick up branches and leaves out of our yard. But the emotional damage was worse than the physical damage. I will never forget category 2 Hurricane Sandy, and now, neither will you.
THE END!
