This is my Collaborative Guide to The Redstone Update. Please note that I wrote this during Minecon meaning some of there's things are already implemented, such as Fireworks. This is a list of everything on Mojang's future list from the panel presentation and the discussion and Q&A session afterwards:
  • Comparator Block and Signal Strength - One input, one output; similar to Repeater

  • Weighted Pressure Plates - Output signal strength will depend on pressure applied

  • Automated Item movement - Transport massive amounts of items including automated movement of items; from chest into cart, from ground into chest

The Hopper
  • Minecart coupling - Transport massive amounts of items including automated movement of items; from chest into cart, from ground into chest
  • Daylight Detector - Solar Panels

Daylight Detectors
  • Book Portable Paper Enchantments - enchanting a book piece of paper then using Anvil to transfer enchantment to an item

Book Enchants
  • Waypoints - Maybe
  • New 'Nether Ore' Block(s) - Possible addition of 1 or 2 new Ore blocks, probably a Nether Ore (to craft Capacitor Blocks or anything else new).

Nether Quartz
  • Nether Brick Slabs - Yes

Nether Brick Slabs
  • Red Dragon update - Big plans but the physics are complicated
  • Advanced Combat system - Makes Fighting more interesting. May include Spear (longer reach) and Crossbow (rapid fire) - but not planned.
  • Friends system - It is in planning stage, hopefully released next year. It will be Mojang-server-side and linked to Mojang accounts.
  • Depth Detector - like a compass for underground
  • Biome updates - Biome updates are planned; some updates will focus on specific Biomes and some will add new Biomes.
  • Fireworks - Fireworks before/for New Year's Eve


  • Mod API will be released with the 1.5 Update, which has a tenative release date of January, 2013.
  • Mods can have config files that, when initialized, will be able to dynamically print text in a variety of ways.
  • The API will eliminate the need to write to the engine directly, allowing modifications that affect the game (as any mod will), without altering the game code itself. Among other things, this will greatly simplify mod installation.
  • You will be able to modify Vanilla block behavior
  • There will there be official community resources (tutorials, forums, etc) for modders.
  • Players will be able to download mods from the game client itself.
  • The API will be able to add new mobs to the game through mods and it will be possible to modify animated blocks (water, lava) as well as custom animated blocks.
  • The API will be integrated into the vanilla game, hopefully bypassing the need for exernal APIs.
  • Not at this time, Will client-only mods be supported, but as the biggest client-only modifications are already covered (texture packs, splash screen text etc), it didn't seem necessary.

  • Mods don't need to be re-written from the ground but will need to be changed to accommodate the API. Even if a mod requires an overhaul for the API, it would only be a one-time occurrence.
  • Physics be modded.
  • The API will not be on the XBOX or Pocket Edition unless the developers of each game, wish to.
  • Something even better than Optifine will be added to vanilla. Overall, the game engine is being simplified, taking most of the load off of the client, and having the server doing the heavy work, greatly improving SMP.
  • Smoothstone stairs are not planned.
  • No new mobs are planned.

Snapshot 13W16A
  • Added horses, based on the work of John Olarte (DrZhark), of Moo Creatures fame
  • Added horse armor (iron, gold, diamond)
    • Crafted with six iron/gold/diamond, and a wool block

  • Added horse saddle
    • Crafted with five leather and three iron ingots

  • Added hay bales
  • Added leashes
  • Added carpets
    • Carpets are made using 2 of your desired colors of wool in a horizontal line

  • The o Respirationo enchantment now also helps seeing underwater
  • You can now rash blocks/items in a same block/item ID, but has to be an other value, in creative
    • I'm very sorry, what does this mean? "rash" makes no sense, and this is bad grammar.

  • Donkeys share the same spawning code as horses
    • Donkeys have chests with their saddles, although no inventory is available
    • There is a Undead, Skeleton, and Mule version of the donkey in the horse texture file as well

1.5 Pre-Release
1.5 Pre-Release Features:

  • Added Redstone Comparator (used in Redstone logic)

  • Added Hopper (collects items and moves them to containers)

  • Added Dropper (similar to Dispensers, but always drops the item)

  • Added Activator Rail (activates TNT Minecarts)

  • Added Daylight Sensor

  • Added Trapped Chest

  • Added Weighed Pressure Plate

  • Added Block of Redstone

  • Added Nether Brick (item)

  • Added Nether Quartz and ore

  • Added Block of Quartz, with half blocks and chiseled variants

  • New command: /scoreboard

  • New command: /effect

  • Containers and mobs can have custom names

  • Inventory management has been changed, for example you can drag-place items over slots

  • Texture packs now have separate images for each block and item, and can have animations

  • Nether Quartz Ore now spawns in the Nether

  • Smooth lighting now has three settings (none, minimal, maximum)

  • More detailed death messages

  • Some hostile mobs now are harder in Hard difficulty

  • Many, many, bug fixes

  • Removed Herobrine

Notable changes:
  • Dispensers and droppers will now only fire once when they receive a redstone signal. To fire again, the signal must be turned off and on again. (Previously a dispenser would fire whenever it had a signal and a nearby block changed.)

  • Redstone and components stay powered after unloading chunks

  • Dispenser and Dropper shooting out when updated

  • Server crashes if spaces are input on the console

  • Night Vision Potions that are edited to last longer create a potentially seizure-inducing flashing sky background.

  • Furnace interface occasionally closes when adding fuel, deleting all items in the furnace

  • Named Mobs Don't have Named Babies

  • Getting into a minecart with a mob in it crashes minecraft

  • 2 Hoppers funneling unstackable items into a 3rd Hopper at the same time cause the 3rd Hopper to not funnel items into a container

  • Dispensers continually shoot/use certain items like water buckets and flint&steel

  • Comparators still giving off power when hopper inventory is empty

  • Animals can breed over distances up to almost 8 blocks when only seperated by fences

  • Message "THIS TOO" in console

  • Full hoppers feeding into full hoppers causes the forward hopper to stall

  • Adding items to brewing stand using dropper does not change state of comparator

Bug Fixes:

  • Unicode font text shadow misaligned

  • Activated detector-rails moved by a piston keep their activated state

  • Single player mode, creative mode, E to select block, select block from grid, E to return to game, game freezess, crash log created

  • Furnace Tile Entities reproducing o Internal performance bug

  • Furnace interface occasionally closes when adding fuel, deleting all items in the furnace

  • Redstone block and torches don't power dispensers, droppers, TNT and Noteblocks

  • Adding an item to a hopper with a dropper does not change comparator state.

  • Piston retracting disapears if pushed out by another piston

  • Issues with Baby Cows' hitboxes

  • Last Direct Multiplayerconnection does not get saved

  • Hard Crash

  • Hopper Cool-Down is messed up

  • Slowness 127 and Speed 110 together flip view

  • Using /clear on more than 1 player will stop clearing inventories once an empty inventory is encountered

  • /me cannot use @p correctly

  • updated redstone bug (detectorrail)

  • "/scoreboard teams empty teamName" error message says "%s" instead of the team's name

Snapshot 13W09C

  • All potions are now categorized in Creative Mode

  • Removed the amplifier effect limit

  • /effect (PotionID) 0 will take away the effect from the player if he/she got the effect

  • You can now go up to but most of the effects will do weird after 127


  • TP Bug when you sit in Minecart/Boat/Riding pig

  • Minecart going in a circle will make any minecart close to them go super fast.

  • Sounds: Fire extinguish sound does not work in survival

  • Redstone and components stay powered after unloading chunks

  • Breaking Doors moves the other part of the door sometimes

  • Swords do not lose durability when used on the Ender Dragon

  • Creative Menu potion values are not the same as when brewed (issue redo)

  • Brewing stand comparator output inconsistent

  • Non-standard resolutions (and small standard resolutions) not detected properly

  • Nether cave/tunnel generator produces incorrect/cut tunnels

  • Missing quartz, hopper, and comparator textures

  • Quartz slabs and double slabs using wrong texture

  • Inconsistent distribution system (based on hopper, hopper bug) using rails and minecart-chest over hoppers

  • Powered mechanisms react when receiving a 0 tick redstone signal

  • Comparator use off state texture / do not emit any light when powered

  • Minecarts with Hoppers duplicating items when multiple carts are in the same space

  • Hitting mobs with a sharpness I wooden sword and weakness III crashes the game

  • Powering 2 pistons extends the wrong piston!

  • Mobs with the old AI have inverted head movement

  • Rows of Vertical Down Piston Extenders have a >50% failure rate

  • Minecraft crashes when a saddled pig you ride dies or when changing between rideable entities

  • Animations for items and blocks do not work properly

  • Unable to craft with blocks which have a damage value greater than 0

  • Invisible entities infinite spawn loop (client side) using minecart spawners causing severe performance issues.

  • Crash when near crops

  • View Upside Down with Speed 5 and FOV Quake Pro

  • Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem; Ticking player

  • Same redstone line, two different redstone level

  • Internal error when using /effect with an id >31

Snapshot 13W09B
  • crowdin.net: Entry entity.WitherBoss.name is missing o German translation is "Withern"

  • Self-Powered Redstone Lamp / Breaking a repeater with a piston pointing at a block won't stop the circuit

  • Potatoes are not affected by the Fortune enchantment

  • Items with NBT data do not stack correctly due to serialization

  • Cannot Drop Items in Creative Mode

  • texturepacks no longer work

  • Rail Duplication glitch

  • World crashes after a few seconds

  • blocks keep the redstone state when breaking a comparator that powers that block

  • Pistons can't destroy comparators

  • Crash with 512x texture pack

  • Fortune doesn't affect the drop rate of apples and saplings

  • "Pick Block" on certain items then switching to survival creates infinite or ghost items

  • When removing "Ghost Items" from the inventory, the number may be negative or zero

  • /clear with command blocks not working with armor that has been worn with custom damage values.

  • Minecraft crashes when a saddled pig you ride dies or when changing between rideable entities

  • Pressing Single or Multiplayer Button crashes the game

  • Mining Fatigue broken

  • Added an /effect command

  • Mobs can now ride stuff that rides other stuff

  • Players riding stuff will keep it when logging off (ie, if youo re on a minecart and log off, you will take that minecart with you)

  • Animated blocks and items in texture packs now requires the animation definition (previously it was optional)


  • Language files have been updated

  • Cannot Connect To Own Server While Not Online (LAN) / Playername being E-Mail address when offline

  • Comparators causes block updates while idle

  • Hopper's name doesn't change in its GUI after renamed in anvil

  • Command Block Arguments Length

  • Unnecessary delay of "Done" button in the texturepacks menu

  • Hopper don't update comparator when receiving item stack

  • Mob Spawners failing to "Saving entity NBT"

  • EntityAIAvoidEntity Interference

  • Scoreboard accepts arguments for @p but if not found it will use a wrong name

Snapshot 13W07A
  • FallingSand can be a chest (or any other tileentity) with NBT now. Compound "TileEntityData".
  • Slight optimizations to lighting

Snapshot 13W06A
  • Improved lighting.
    • Some lighting optimizations

  • Added Minecart with Spawner
    • NBT structure is 100% the same as with normal mob spawners
    • It is not an obtainable item, but instead can only be added as an entity with map editors or filters such as this.

Snapshot 13W05A
  • Added team based functionality to scoreboards.
  • Adjusted balancing of bone meal.
  • Implemented multiple snow heights.
    • Drops more snowballs.
    • 4th height fork as slab.

  • Crafting recipe for thin snow.

Snapshot 13W04A
  • Nerfed Bone Meal
    • No longer gives instant growth - Instead, each use advances one growth stage. Crops now need seven bone meal, saplings need two.
    • Gives off green particles when used

  • Mobs are now scared of minecart tracks
  • Added a Command feature, scoreboard
  • Mobs now show their renamed name (using an Anvil) above their head within a certain radius.
  • Improved double slabs
    • 43:8 will now be the "smooth stone slab block" and will remain so
    • Generally: If the top bit is set, the top texture will be used on all sides, also allowing for smooth sandstone blocks (43:9)

  • Improved dispensers
    • Now equip players with armour from 1 block away.
    • They now activate TNT
    • They now use bonemeal
    • They now use flint and steel to make fire

  • Dispensers and droppers can now face all 6 directions
  • In Creative, you can now hit mobs/players from five blocks away.
    • The original range only goes for Survival and Adventure mode.

Snapshot 13W03A
  • Improved command blocks
    • Comparators fed by command blocks will now indicate whether the last run command was ran successfully
    • Added /testfor command to test for players, use comparators to get an analog redstone signal indicating the amount of found players

  • You can now drop items from inventory screens
  • Improved detector rails
    • Comparators powered by them now give out a signal depending on the fullness of the container on the rail

  • Improved Quartz blocks
    • Pillar Quartz Blocks can now be placed in any orientation - placement works like with wooden logs

  • Added a new Dropper block.
    • Places items in containers in front of them, if there is no container it will dispense the item without using it (similar to a dispenserand hopper, but it needs redstone to make it travel)
    • Crafting recipe is 6 cobblestone in the shape of an upside-down 'U', a hopper in the middle, redstone dust at the bottom

  • Improved the menu
    • Added some new chat options in multiplayer menu: Focused Height, Unfocused Height and Width
    • Moved the texture packs button (no longer appears on the main menu) - You can now change texture packs in-game

  • Improved Minecart with TNT
    • When blown up using activator rails, they no longer destroy rails and supporting blocks
    • Still blow up redstone stuff

  • Creating a infinite water source no longer needs a block underneath, but has to have a water source block.
    • This means you won't ruin rivers/oceans with Buckets

  • Made skeletons significantly harder to melee and
    • Scales to difficulty
    • They now shoot faster when their target is closer
    • They shoot players one block away

  • Made zombies harder to shoot
    • Scales to difficulty
    • They now group up on targets
    • When on fire, they can now set players on fire
    • Now become aggresive when shot from further away

  • Added a Minecart with Hopper
    • Crafting recipe is a hopper on top of a minecart

  • At least 19 bugs squished.

Snapshot 13W02B
  • The stitcher should now make sure to create textures that have sizes in powers of two (fixes all-white textures)

  • Trapped Chests can now transmit signal downward through one block. This does not apply horizontally (through walls)

  • When powered, the hopper can't receive items

  • Fixed Trapped chests only transmit redstone signal via redstone dust

  • Fixed Crash at 13w02a Startup [Failed to start game]

  • Fixed Hopper item looks odd when dropped

  • Fixed Texture of the furnace and the dispenser in the inventory are not showing the blocks "face"

  • Fixed Biome's grass color does not get applied to the sides of the grass block in 13w02a

  • Fixed Looking at certain items crashes the game

  • Fixed the tnt minecart is missing the ssss sound once triggered

  • Fixed Minecart with TNT fails to return correct items when removed by player

  • Fixed Ghast fireball / Fireball texture

  • Fixed White textures everywhere!

  • Fixed stitched_terrain.png and stitched_items.png on desktop

  • Fixed Cauldrons have no bottom texture inside

  • Fixed TNT Minecarts cannot be dispense from a dispenser onto rails

  • Fixed TNT Minecarts Disappear on Reload

  • Fixed [Regression] Brewing Stand does not show water bottles/potions in world.

  • Fixed Dupe planks

  • Fixed Hopper still duplicating items

  • Removing a block with a Redstone Torch on it will not remove the Redstone Torch

all they did is just release a new launcher and they are not finished,if you used the MinecraftDev or new launcher, it says they are not done with the update.

It says that they are not done with the Launcher because there may be problems. Also, it's a Snapshot so of course they are not done!

I don't think MOdAPI will be releasing for 1.5 . Because it was delayed in 1.5, though.

I posted this awhile ago and in the blog it says these are things that are PLANED then at the bottom I have all the snapshots and the details. Once something that is planed is created I add more info and a picture.
