The Ancient Civilization

Sunshine, blue skies, a perfect day in Woodland Village. Farmers planting crops, shepherds herding sheep, but off in a small, unadorned lodge at the edge of town sits an architect ready to change the world.

“Oh, did I just!” Edward Woodore bellows “I did it! After all this time I finally did it!”

Edward then shoots out of his chair like the phantoms of the night were pursuing him. He then sprints towards his door as fast as lightning and continues to smash the door down and darts toward the village bell. Following him is an old village cat named Furball. Furball was known for being an awfully smart cat, Furball could predict things before they even happened. Like one time Furball knew there was a group of raiders headed towards the village weeks before it happened. Furball woke up the village guard that had fallen asleep at his post and slowly nudged him in the direction the pillagers were in. Edward reached the village bell and as he was about to ring it Furball jumped on him and knocked him to the ground.

“Aww, Furball what are you doing little kitty,” Edward said softly “come on get off.”

Furball refused with a long, deep meow. Hearing this Edward gave the cat a callous look and proceeded to stand up. Edward dusted himself off and then rang the bell.

“Attention! Everyone,” Edward hollered in excitement. “I've just uncovered our gate to a new realm! I believe I've uncovered how to build it.”

Everyone in the village stopped and rushed over to see. The first to arrive was George, George was a village cartographer he was the best cartographer known to the north.

“Edward, you've called us to the tocsin so many times for the same thing are you sure you have it this time?” George scolded.

“Yes, of course, I do! Now quit whining and wait for the others to arrive.” Edward consoled.

“Yes, of course, I do,” George muttered to himself.

Seconds later everyone arrived, and the crowd then began the normal gossip and whispering about the topic. Edward rang the bell once more to gain everyone's attention.

People of Woodland Village, I believe I have finally cracked the code! If I'm correct we can now travel freely between here and, the next world over.” Edward shouted.

Edward then continued to walk down off the hay blocks he was previously propped on. He strolled over to an open area and placed 14 obsidian in a circle shape. He then took out a piece of flint and a piece of steel and scraped them together multiple times until a single spark hit the base of the obsidian. Within seconds the portal flashed and soon filled with a cloud of swirly purple mist.

“Behold the Nether portal!” Edward shouted proudly.

George's smug look soon turned to awe as he stared into the hazy glowing portal.

“How did you do that? That's not possible. No!” George exclaimed. “There is absolutely no way you just did that!”

“Well, you can see it can't you George?” Edward said egotistically.

Edward finally looked up at the crowd every jaw in the village was dropped at that time except for Furballs. Furball then proceeded to walk towards the portal sniffing it and in a low meow, Furball walked away. Something was wrong otherwise Furball wouldn't be so upset.

“Now who volunteers to go first?” Edward exclaimed.

No one answered or raised their hand.

“Why don't we send in a pig according to you its organ size is very similar to a human's.” a voice from the crowd called out.

“Great Idea let's tie a pig to a rope and push it through the portal!” Edward announced. “Hey, Larry can we use one of your pigs to test if the portal is safe?”

Larry was the village butcher. He cooked the meat for the people of Woodland Village. He wasn't very wealthy, but he managed.

“Of course you can it would be an honor to have one of my pigs be the first to enter the portal.” Larry answered.

Larry went to his shop and got a nice slim pig with little value. He had this pig for so long no matter how much he fed it the pig wouldn't gain weight so it was a useless swine to have. He brought it back to the portal and tied it to a rope with the help of Edward. They cast it through the portal and then waited for ten seconds and pulled it back through.

“What in the name of Notch! What happened to the dang thing?” Larry exclaimed.

Edward, Larry, and George looked down at what once was a happy little pig, but was now some human-pig hybrid. The monstrosity then stood and leaped on Larry's back and began to punch him. Edward grabbed the pig and threw it into the portal. Furball then walked over to Larry laying on the ground in shock. Poor Larry was white as the snow on the mountains that surrounded Woodland Village. Furball then proceeded to lick Larry's face which calmed him down a bit.

“What was that thing?” Larry shouted while getting to his feet.

“I don't know, but we need to take down this portal now.” George stated.

Furball had just been swimming. She was quite weird but that cat loved the water. Furball stood next to the portal and shook and in seconds the purple mist disappeared.

“It seems that water will close the portal when contact is made.” Edward stated.

No one in the village had mentioned the event, because no one wanted to make Edward feel like it was his fault Larry was injured even though it truly was. Later that night Larry kept having dreams about the encounter with the creature, and he wanted to see for himself. So, Larry quietly walked down to where the portal was placed but, there were orders for it to be destroyed in the morning. He picked up the flint and the steel that was still left on the ground from when the portal was first lit. He knew he shouldn't light it back but something drove him to. Something wanted him to.

He carefully lit the portal and the purple haze reappeared. He knew that if he was caught he would be in big trouble not only because the portal wasn't meant to be re-lit but, also because there was a curfew to keep villagers from getting hurt by mobs. Larry slowly stepped into the purple abyss knowing he might never see the light of day again.

Crimson skies, red mushroom-like trees, and worst of all the smell of rotted pork. Larry looked to his left there sat his pig laying on the ground so peacefully. Larry walked over to him and spoke.

“Hey, hey wake up little buddy.”

With a slight jolt, the pig stood up and ran over to Larry and rubbed his head against his knee like that of a cat.

“Well, it's good to know you're not one of those hideous pig things.”

The pig turned and sprinted away.

“Oh, I think he wants to lead me somewhere” Larry said.

Larry and the pig traveled for quite a ways until they reached a huge flock of the pig creatures. Larry immediately hid behind one of the crimson mushrooms. While the pig continued over to the pig creatures the creatures looked down at the pig and, they made a few weird sounds as if they were talking to the pig. They then began to follow the pig over to where Larry was hiding once they found him they put a golden sword to his neck and aimed their crossbows directly at him. The one with the sword put its hand out as though it wanted Larry to give it something. After, staying in that position for a while the pig creature shook its hoof as though it was trying to get the message through quicker.

“Listen I don't know what you want but please don't hurt me.” Larry cried.

The creature with the sword then carved a picture of a gold ingot into the ground then it put its hoof back out. George had been on a mining trip a few days prior. On that mining trip, he managed to get some gold and, he had a few gold ingots in his pockets. Larry promptly removed the gold ingots and handed them off to the pig creature. The creature then gave him a fire resistance potion and stared in awe at the gold ingot for a few seconds then pocketed it. Larry then proceeded back to the portal just as Larry was about to get through the portal suddenly shut. The people in the village must have found the open portal and closed it. Larry yelled for help but no one could hear no one but, the piglins at least that's what Larry was going to call them. They came rushing over with Larry's pig and all, Larry pointed at the portal hoping they could help. The piglins got out a bucket of lava made from netherite. Larry placed a block of wood inside the portal and placed the lava next to it until it lit the portal allowing Larry access home. Larry gave them the rest of his gold and left without saying a word.
