The Editors Quill:
What happened? Perhaps many of you will remember a time of afore, one when there were weekly newspapers to enlighten users of this site and enjoyers of Minecraft on the happenings and goings-on. Well, despite my initial reluctance, I've decided to submit to the pressure at hand, and reëstablish this newspaper as the quality page of Times for you readers. For anyone who is just tuning in, the Blockly Craft was a project made by me alongside a couple collaborators, who might be found P.M.-ing me useful things to add. The last installment was posted in June of 2024, and, as I implied earlier, it was quite upsetting to several members when it was ultimately discontinued. It was discontinued after I left, leaving due to personal issues, but, as you may have guessed by my presence here now, and the fact you're reading this, I have returned; I came back about 2 months ago, and, yes, the time has come to bring back this project. I am picking it up where I last left off, since doing it elsehow might get confusing when numbering (imagine if there were two papers, both named #8), vindicating this one's number: 29. I hope you enjoy the return, and again, if you are new, perhaps you'll enjoy the experience, since there isn't really anything else like this on the site. Thanks for reading, and now we can begin!

The Happy Ghasts & Crafting Changes:
As we are all aware, by now, Mojang has promised the Happy Ghasts to be in the next update, which has recently been named, officially. The so-called Chase the Skies update brings Happy Ghasts alongside their dried variants and younger Ghastling mobs, plus it adds in changes to leads, which are now easier to craft and don't break as easily. These lead changes came to assist players in using the Happy Ghasts, who are able to have entities attached (via lead) to them, creating a sort of hot-air-balloon (or Enola Gay æroplane, if you so fancy), and can also be ridden with the new harness item. Alongside the lead changes, making them easier to craft, players will also find, for the first time ever in vanilla Minecraft, that they can craft saddles! Made with an iron ingot and three leather hides, they are now obtainable through crafting, making them easier to get outside of the other, older methods like fishing and trading. The saddle and lead were not the only unexpected recipes, though, as the aforementioned Dried Ghasts can, if you are too scared to find one in the soulsand valleys, be crafted with one piece of soulsand and eight Ghast tears.—The original recipe had a player use a bone block, but this was changed after players ridiculed Steve for being able to create life but not make other things (the saddle being the biggest point of heckling, though this was also, comedically, fixed), so now the player uses soulsand instead of a bone block (soulsand presumably already has souls, so Steve isn't creating life, per se, anymore).
Release Date, When?
Just two days ago, on the 14th of June, the official release date came for the next drop; the update will come out on the 17th of June, meaning that, by the time this post comes out, it will only be 2 days off. Most Minecraft updates are anticipated months before release, with a general idea of when to expect it being given during Minecraft Live before the proper release date is given, perhaps a month in advance.—That said, this drop being officially dated to come out only 3 days after the release date was posted is surprising and unorthodox; either way, it changes very little, as many players, including YouTuber Wattles, seeing how little was being changed in recent snapshots, could tell the release would be soon.
The Musicians’ Corner:
Many of the recent updates have included new music discs, and this update is no exception. We know that alongside Tears, which is found after a player kills a Ghast using its own fireball, there are a couple other ambient songs that are being added, such as Below and Above, O's Piano, and Broken Clocks. Another feature is that now players can set the game to show which song is playing and who made said song at all times—it’s not the biggest change, but it is nice for quality-of-life. The disc is by a more obscure name, one which hasn't made music for Minecraft before, Amos Ruddy, an American musician in the state of Oregon, and while his name isn't as famous as those of the beloved C418 or Lena Raine, or even Samuel Ꜵburg, who made the music for Minecraft Dungeons with Peter Hont, he is still a great musician and I suggest you check out his work, which I've linked here.
The Speedrunners Section:
Very recently a user by the name of skycrab attempted to get the world record for Java speedrunning; the world record was, at the time, set about a year prior and was set by drip; that run took only 7:01 to complete, making it the fastest of its time.—For reference, that was quite the gap, as the second place was over 20 seconds longer (in speedrunning 20 seconds is a lot, as you may know). Skycrab attempted a speedrun, though, and managed to get into the Nether at only around 1:10 in. After spawning by a bastion and a Nether fortress he'd make his way to The End, killing the Ender Dragon in record pacing at 5:58, over a full minute faster than the previous record. Skycrab’s luck would run out, though, as while he was bed-cycling the Dragon he accidentally looked at an Enderman for only 4 frames, which would later kill him after he got to low health trying to Enderpearl to the exit portal to finish the run. His world record, had it been completed, would have been one of the largest jumps in history, as shaving an entire minute is nearly impossible with how optimised most runs are. Most players try to shave off just a few seconds from the previous record-holder’s run, or even settle for mere milliseconds to win; had this record been secured, it may have killed speedrunning as a whole, as it would have been deemed impossible to get a better run on a non-set seed. The full attempt can be found on his YouTube, which is linked here.
Even though skycrab did not get the record, he certainly got some fame out of this, as he has been the centre of attention in many Minecraft circles, and has been mentioned in videos by Camman18 and Phoenix SC, both being quite famous creators.
Outside of the skycrab drama, and even more recent, a different player attempted the world record speedrun, and managed to actually get it. Lowkey, a famous YouTuber and Twitch streamer, attempted the record run only shortly after skycrab's choke, and managed to get a run that, while not as good as that of skycrab's near-success, shaved off 11 seconds from the previous record. His run was incredibly lucky, getting a bastion and a fortress and getting 6 Blaze rods out of 6 Blazes after entering the Nether only about 8 seconds into the run; his run will go down in history as one of the best, there is no doubt. His method of killing the Ender Dragon was unique, as he killed it by abusing a mechanic with arrows where the Dragon can speed them up by hitting them while attacking the player. One of the arrows, shot by lowkey, was charged by the Dragon and then hit the Dragon, killing it instantly.—This marks it as different from other runs, which often use bed-cycling. Something to note is that his run, unlike skycrab's, was on a set seed, meaning that it is in a different category than the other, normal runs, which generally use random seeds. His version was also not the latest release, but rather 1.16.1, the Nether Update, though this is not to be confused with 1.16.2, which added Piglin Brutes, the bane of any modern runners. The run is available on his YouTube, as well, linked here, though one can also check out his Twitch, here.
Vibrant Visuals:
Several years ago, Bedrock Edition was promised shaders; this never did come to fruition until recently, where the so-called Vibrant Visuals are now out for testing. Upon completion they will bring pixel-accurate shadows, cloud changes, and coloured lighting to the game. They are also capable of changing water and adding remiss to textures. As of now, these are only available in beta, and only on the Bedrock Edition of the game, but they do still give hope to players on Java that shader support will one day be a thing without the use of incomprehensive mods such as Lithium.
In Other News:
Minecraft has had a very busy year so far, with the new drop coming soon, the recent Minecraft Movie coming out and being the centre of memes, alongside the usual bustle of servers and YouTubers, plus the occasionally eccentric Planet Minecrafter. The rest of 2025 looks fairly promising, and many players are looking forward to the next drop, already anticipating an End update, however likely or unlikely that outcome may be. Some players are still upset about the shift to drops, while others claim it adds new content at a faster pace than before—both sides are valid, as while updates are more frequent, some things such as new structures have been noticeably excluded from any drops. Whatever one's opinions may be, they are irrelevant to this weekly bugle, unbiased as it is. Make sure to tune in for next week’s post, as posts will be done weekly at 2:00 P.M. (B.S.T), or, for any Americans, 4:00 A.M. (E.D.T)
Thank you for reading this first paper of the new Blockly Craft reboot; I am, alongside anyone who wishes to assist me, looking forward to keeping the tradition, hopefully making it better than ever before; on that note, perhaps you’d wish to post an advertisement in this blog? For the small price of a well-written shoutout to me and the Blockly Craft, you can get any one piece of content* added in a section here, hopefully boosting its performance! Plus, anyone who wants is able to P.M. or D.M. me in order to try getting relevant news into the next instalment. This blog may be slow to start up again, but anyone who adds to it will help it perform better, and that would obviously be helpful to pretty much everyone involved. With all that said, tune in next week, and that’s all!
*All content must be appropriate and follow the site rules, as well as any and all rules also imposed by the advertiser, me; I have every right to turn down requests for any reason whatsoever, and am under no obligation to advertise to anyone—for that reason, please do not give shoutouts until after the content has been approved. Anything that breaks site rules will not be accepted, nor anything political, extremist, or provocative in any way that is seemingly uncovered by the site's preëxisting rules. Again, anything can be turned down from being eligible for advertisements for any reason as well as no given reason. Thank you!
