Тʜᴇ Еᴅɪᴛᴏʀ'ꜱ Qᴜɪʟʟ:

Welcome back to another issue of The Blocky Craft Newspaper, released every Sunday at 2:00. In case any of you didn't see last week's issue, know that the bugle has returned and now posts weekly just as it did before. Today's articles cover the new Chase the Skies update from Mojang Studios and the news on a Minecraft Netflix series; today’s paper also holds a small advertisement section, as Planet Minecrafter LittleTravisaIncBlockyCube has requested some of his YouTube videos be shown. Without further ado, thank you for reading, and let us get right into the news, itself…

Снᴀꜱᴇ тʜᴇ Sᴋɪᴇꜱ:

As everyone is aware of, by now, the Chase the Skies update (or drop, as they are called) has been released, including new recipes for crafting leads and saddles, the new Happy Ghasts and their dried variants, Vibrant Visuals—Mojang’s official shaders system, currently available only in the Bedrock Edition—and new music tracks by Amos Ruddy, who also created the new music disc, Tears, for the release, a disc dropped by Ghasts when one is hit by its own fireball.

Some smaller changes were also made to commands, the accessibility menu, and lead physics, too, but one change that has gone undiscussed is the new painting, which, like Vibrant Visuals, is only available in Bedrock Edition. The painting is 3×3 in size, and was made by artist Sarah Boeving, an American artist who has worked on several games outside of Minecraft and made the 1.21 paintings for the Tricky Trials. The painting is referred to as Good Boy, depicting a realist face of a dog, though the code calls it Dennis, a reference to A Minecraft Movie, no doubt, as the name of the painting is also that of Steve's dog within the film. It was not featured in any snapshots, and is thus a surprising addition. The painting, like many other recent ones, does not use the abstract style of Kristoffer Zetterstrand, the old artist from the Notch Era, but this is not inherently bad, and many players have shown appreciation for Boeving’s work before, so this piece may also be loved by many, especially if it makes its way to the Java Edition, soon.

Alongside all of the larger changes, the player locator bar was added, which replaces the experience bar in multiplayer. Players can still see how much experience they have when they get some, as the locator bar disappears for a second when one gains points, but, for the most part, in multiplayer, players can expect to see quite a decrease in the number of green bars, and quite a few more coloured dots. The bar, alongside showing in what direction a player is, also shows how far away said player is, denoting such through the dot’s size, where the player's corresponding dot shrinks if he is far away (similar to how maps show players as smaller depending on where they are, and how far off-grid they are). Something else of interesting note might be that players can remove their respective dots on the bar by hiding. Mob’s heads, carved pumpkins, and invisibility potions all will make a player be untraceable through the bar, possibly creating some unique strategies in modern long-term factions or ᴘ.ᴠ.ᴘ. servers.

As mentioned above, briefly, and in a more in-depth fashion last issue, Amos Ruddy has composed the music for this update; a total of six new songs have been added, all of which are specific to only play in certain biomes. The option to display in-game which tracks are playing alongside who composed them is now in the menu, too, as is a setting for how frequently music should play—though it's to be noted that both these features, the music frequencies and new pop-ups, are Java Edition exclusive, at least for the time being.

Тнᴇ Мᴏᴜᴛʜ ᴏꜰ Мᴏᴊᴀɴɢ:

Mojang Studios has been very active, recently, on social media, making plenty of posts on YouTube and other platforms to advertise their new update, specifically the Vibrant Visuals, but also the other parts of this update, such as the long-awaited Happy Ghasts. In addition to these posts, Mojang has started to acknowledge Pride Month, and has, for the first time ever, made a cape specifically for it. The Progress Pride Cape was a cape that was given to players for free when they redeemed it on the Bedrock Edition (it is currently unobtainable on Java Edition). The cape shows the Progress Pride flag, designed by Daniel Quasar, the six stripes of rainbow colours, and the pointed chevrons on top. It is, most notably, regionally locked, meaning not everyone had access to it when it was available, and this is likely to protect Minecraft’s brand as Pride topics are still very controversial in many countries, and sometimes even prohibited, outright.

About a year ago, an animated Minecraft series was announced for Netflix. This was announced a bit before A Minecraft Movie and was highly anticipated as many players were excited for an official story-driven series in the Minecraft Extended Universe outside of the novels. The series was announced, however, before being left on the shelf as everyone seemed to forget its existence; as you may be able to guess, though, the series has been mentioned again, showing players that the show has not been forgotten, completely. The show was mentioned by Netflix, but, much to the playerbase's dismay, it was only in passing and proves nothing about the corporation's intentions with the project. We don't know much at all, apart from the fact that it was planned and has now been unofficially shelfed, but now we know, at the very least, that it isn't wholly forgotten.

Only one day ago, Mojang also made a post that challenged the players to feed Ghastlings and spawn Happy Ghasts, promising rewards if the challenges are completed. By spawning 50,000,000 Happy Ghasts in Creative Mode and feeding 1,000,000 Ghastlings snowballs in Survival players in Java will get two new skins and players on Bedrock will get two Character Creator items to use. It doesn't matter if a player participates, just as long as the goal is reached everyone gets the reward. It's unclear if there is a deadline to complete this challenge, or if it goes on until it is eventually completed by some random player 4 years from now in 2029; whatever the case may be, it's a fun way for Mojang to interact with the community.

Αɴ Аᴅᴅᴇᴅ Αᴅᴠᴇʀᴛɪꜱᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ:

As was mentioned above, LittleTravisaIncBlockyCube would like to place an advert for his YouTube series, which is a nice blend of his ᴘ.ᴍ.ᴄ. lore with some of an almost liminal/analogue horror feel to it. It's made of about a dozen short videos that act either as first-person accounts or found footage; with multiple videos and characters to watch, it's pretty fun, and definitely worth checking out.

Јᴜᴍʙᴏ Јᴀᴍꜱ:

Moving away from updates and Mojang, Planet Minecraft has been a hub of activity, recently, especially with several jams; for anyone who doesn't know, a jam is like a contest where participants can enter content and hope to get a prize.—Some jams are ranked, meaning entries are given a rating and might, if they do well, get 1st place, 2nd place, or 3rd place (or a different ranking, participant, if one is even lower than 3rd), while other jams are less competitive, and just have players enter skins, mods, datapacks, and the like hoping to simply have fun in a community of like-minded creators, often with the only prize being a participation award for participant’s trophy widgets.

There are currently a few notable jams, including one that focuses on the late YouTuber, Technoblade. Technoblade inspired millions of people with his Skyblock and Bedwars content, and this jam is a tribute to him. The jam, found here, runs until June 27th, so there is plenty of time to join, if you'd like, entering texture packs, mods, skins, maps, datapacks, and even blogs, among other things.

Other jams include the 4th season of the Bilge Rat Jam and the Orange Jam, with the former having 64 contestants as of writing this, focusing on Mermaids and Renegade Hunters.—Very piratical. The Orange Jam is another popular jam, with the main rule being pretty simple: No colours other than orange. Participants can't use blacks, whites, greys, or purples—only oranges. This jam has spawned several great pieces of content, as contestants fight for 1st place. So far the jam has 73 users who have joined.

Finally, the Moo Jam (possibly the first of many) is one which pertains to cows. User (and moderator) GoggleD0GG has been very open when discussing his love for bovines, and has, thus, made a jam for them! With 14 entries and 23 official join-ers (again, as of writing this), it's one of the more popular jams happening right now. This jam is going on for another few days, ending on the first of July, so there's plenty of time to submit a skin or mob skin in this unranked contest!

Іɴ Οᴛʜᴇʀ Νᴇᴡꜱ:

This week has been a less eventful week than the last one, but it still did bring us players the new update, a surprise painting, some fancy in-game shaders, Happy Ghasts, and new music tracks (among other things); those things, alongside the jams on Planet Minecraft and the playerbase's recovery from Lowkey and skycrab1’s respective speedruns, seem to point Minecraft towards a good direction for the later second half of 2025, especially with players excited for Minecraft Live, which will be soon, no doubt. Thank you all for reading this paper, tune in next week for another on Sunday at 2:00 ᴘ.ᴍ. (ʙ.ꜱ.ᴛ), or, for any Americans, 4:00 ᴀ.ᴍ. (ᴇ.ᴅ.ᴛ.).

One last note: Just like LittleTravisaIncBlockyCube, you can also get an advertisement posted into this paper for the low-low price of a well-written shout-out to me (that is, illager), and The Blocky Craft as a whole. With any luck the piece of content* in the paper will get clicks, thus boosting it, helping you and anyone else who may be looking for what you offer. Again, thanks for reading, and I hope to see you all again next week!

*All content must be appropriate and follow the site rules, as well as any and all rules also imposed by the advertiser, me; I have every right to turn down requests for any reason whatsoever and am under no obligation to advertise to anyone—for that reason, please do not give shoutouts until after the content has been approved. Anything that breaks site rules will not be accepted, or anything political, extremist, or provocative in any way that is seemingly uncovered by the site's preëxisting rules. Again, anything can be turned down from being eligible for advertisements for any reason as well as no given reason. Thank you!
