There's more than just words to this sentence. I see occasionally people who will just ask random people to add them, and give out their username in the public chat. Apparently, they haven't read this blog yet :) Also note that these don't happen on a daily basis, it's what CAN happen.

Giving out your Username

Unless you message someone it, its gonna have to go into the public chat... where everyone can see it. I don't wanna sound paranoid but there's some pretty crazy people out there that will take that username, look it up on the internet and trace you down... Like what the government does :P And Santa (Say WHAAAT?)

The Conversation

So after you put your name in public and added this random dude off of Minecraft, its time to start the call and conversation! Since you ARE playing a videogame, you're probably focused on winning or whatever your doing instead of what you say. You never know, something could slip out and be the end of the line for you! Also, if you're a kid, talking with adults on Skype can be preeeeeeeeeeety awkward.

Questions

I hope you're wise enough to not tell any personal info. If not, well, NOT MY PROBLEM! I mean, its common sense to hang up if they start asking you tons of personal questions...right? RIGHT?

Anyways, this was just a forewarning for those out there doing that. If you haven't already done this, don't. People can track your location or maybe put a virus in your computer! Thanks for reading!!!

This is why I've made sure my real name (at least not my full name) is anywhere on the internet.

Add a virus through skype? no way unless microsoft has added a backdoor, track down your location? the closest track of my information transmitted through skype I have seen is about 200 kilometers from my place.

And how many people have told you they tracked you? that 200 kilometers might meen that they were seeing a server that you were runnung thru but obviously there are more skilled people than that. It is easy to get the IP and other information of everybody in a skype call or chat room at once, and if used in the right way, i could at least tell you were your modem is if you use one. if not then it could be even easier to go straight to your computer. as far as the virus thing i believe you are right. Unless, i guess it could be possible for somebody to moddify their skype and have a small trojan or something "piggyback" their call but you would have to answer. even then the virus might not be able to get in your file system. only other way is if they send you a file and you open... then you're fucked
