Ladies and Gentleblocks, welcome to something that I don't believe has been done before. I've conducted a psychological experiment on the Planet Minecraft community. By using another account I have been posting both positive and negative comments on projects, skins, texture packs and blogs. My goal was to find out how the majority of people react to negative comments about their work as well as positive. Here are my results.
Planet Minecraft presents a variety of talent ranging from fairly pathetic, but nonetheless an attempt, to possibly some of the most mind-bogglingly creative and awe-inspiring things the world has ever seen.
When commenting positive remarks like "Really good build" or "I love the textures :)" on smaller and unrecognised builds, the author tends to have an overwhelming sense of achievement. This may be due to the fact that they don't receive many comments usually. This sense of achievement becomes tenfold when the user commenting is of a much higher level.
In comparison, a much higher levelled user tends to expect more and more positive feedback and attention since they have already had a significant amount of it. I also know this from personal experience that once you get a large amount of views, diamonds, comments or favourites, you expect far more the next time and the next time.
Our conscious mind that is currently present however doesn't tend to have that burning greedy ambition for more and more attention and praise. However our subconscious mind does. It's built into our psyche. The same applies to when you score a goal in football or if you win a 1v1 in CoD. You get an adrenalin rush and like any drug addiction, your body craves for more and so you strive to do more and to achieve more. It's a normal human response.
This was probably the most interesting one. There are 4 types of responses to negative comments concerning a creation of a member.
1. The Rage Response
This is a naturally occurring protective response to something of yours being threatened. The closest comparison is that of a protective mother defending her child. Obviously we aren't the Mothers Association so we won't talk about that. But when presented with a negative or threatening comment, this type of response is the worst. The user tended to fight back with negative comments too, such as "Your creations are crap" or "No one likes you or your comments". They become infuriated to see that something of theirs has been put down and is being ridiculed. Again this is a natural human response.
2. The Educated Response
The people that utilise this either have a large ego or more commonly just think in a more educated way. This is when they respond with a witty remark or an educated response usually by accepting the comment as 'constructive criticism'. These people tend to deal with the negative response far better than the others. They take the optimistic route.
3. The Joker's Response
These are in my opinion the best way to respond to a negative remark due to the fact that they utilise humour to fight back. They'll make a joke out of the comment or write a silly phrase like 'umadbro?'. They obviously on the exterior fight back extremely well however sometimes their mind can still be affected by the negative response.
4. The Ignorant Response
This is a good way to fight oppression or insults and a lot of people consider it the best way. This is when you simply ignore the comment and don't respond. Simple and effective.
In conclusion (repetition I know ^), both compliments and criticisms have both positive and negative effects on our minds whether it be because of our ego or whether it be that we are easily affected by negative comments. It was quite interesting observing peoples' responses to these two types of comments and I hope I've help shed some light on the intricate and complex web of ideas that is the human mind.

I gave this guy some constructive criticism, on how he could improve his adventure map (which was really crap. He was hyping it to make us think it was good, before giving us the crappiest ADV ever built).
He blew up. He just started caps locking and every day for about a month I would get flame comments on my work, and flame replies on my original comment. He was flaming my submissions with "this is the s***iest thing I've ever seen" and "you f***ing idiot for posting this crap". Then the flagging came. He flagged ALL my submissions, and the majority got taken down due to apparent 'stealing' of his work (he reposted my work). I nearly left pmc because of him.
Eventually, I sorted it out with ZaphodX. He discussed the situation with Cyprezz, and I think the guy at least got kicked for a couple months. All his reposted submissions were taken down, all my submissions were put back up...
But he still haunts me...
Btw. Nice blog + 1 diamond
