Disclaimer
Do or say what you want to me, I'm glad to hear your thoughts. I'm not writing this to directly blame or besmirch anyone, but I thought it was time I said something about this. I think its sad in a way when someone learns more about how to advertise their project than actually work on it. In fact, I think it does them more damage than the community because when they make something just for recognition, they're cheating themselves out of the joy that one gets when they make something just for the heck of it. Look at it this way, anyone who has had a successful career didn't do it (just) for the money, they did it because they had a passion for whatever it was they were doing. Sometimes you have to take into mind that not everyone is able to share the same passion that someone who was successful has.
I personally think the web is a great for people to come and be able to get appreciation for whatever they do, besides I'm very thankful for that! I like to build things and then have people enjoy them, it's what I love doing which is why I'm aiming to become an architect. So what if someone decides to make a small house which gets a lot of recognition? You can't blame them for gaining more popularity, it's the internet...weird stuff happens. Just enjoy the fact that someone was crazy enough to make a site where everyone who enjoys Minecraft is able to meet each other and potentially make new connections (that means thank you Cyprez...or however you spell his name xD).
Now to address the issue of an overall lack of effort, like I said earlier about what happens on the internet, there's nothing you can control about what other people decide to post. Planet Minecraft is a "community" website which means there will be a wide range of different skilled people. There is no set standard for anything that is built in Minecraft, it's a game. I don't understand how one person can decide whether or not another person's project is spam, it is only that person's opinion which is not subject to other people. Everyone who comes on PMC should be able to post what they want, no matter how good or bad they are. Why did it ever matter how good someone's project was? What happened to the open freedom? The fun?
If someone posts a project on PMC, no matter how good or bad, they just want to be able to share the experience of gaining recognition for their build like everyone else who posts things. They just want to have fun. Why should they be put down?
I hope this gave you a good perspective on the above issues. I also trust that you don't take everything too literally because sometimes people do make mistakes. Its been a while since I last blogged, so I hope you enjoyed reading this one! It took me a lot of thought, but I finally found a way to approach this issue without putting the blame on individuals. Until next time...
Keep Crafting,
-HJ
