Disclaimer
Do or say what you want to me, I'm glad to hear your thoughts. I'm not writing this to directly blame or besmirch anyone, but I thought it was time I said something about this.

I think its sad in a way when someone learns more about how to advertise their project than actually work on it. In fact, I think it does them more damage than the community because when they make something just for recognition, they're cheating themselves out of the joy that one gets when they make something just for the heck of it. Look at it this way, anyone who has had a successful career didn't do it (just) for the money, they did it because they had a passion for whatever it was they were doing. Sometimes you have to take into mind that not everyone is able to share the same passion that someone who was successful has.

pnmTjpg

I don't think you can really blame someone for trying to get recognized on the internet, besides its a great place for everyone to come and get to know each other. Heck, I like PMC because I can come on and be greeted by a whole flock of people that I've never even met! So to address the issue of internet recognition....WHO REALLY CARES?!? I'll let you in on something, if you're worried about things that happen online, just take a break. There's no reason to make online problems bigger than what they ought to be, besides, it's the internet where who knows what happens. Don't worry about internet problems, please! If you need something else to worry about, worry about your grades ;)

I personally think the web is a great for people to come and be able to get appreciation for whatever they do, besides I'm very thankful for that! I like to build things and then have people enjoy them, it's what I love doing which is why I'm aiming to become an architect. So what if someone decides to make a small house which gets a lot of recognition? You can't blame them for gaining more popularity, it's the internet...weird stuff happens. Just enjoy the fact that someone was crazy enough to make a site where everyone who enjoys Minecraft is able to meet each other and potentially make new connections (that means thank you Cyprez...or however you spell his name xD).

Now to address the issue of an overall lack of effort, like I said earlier about what happens on the internet, there's nothing you can control about what other people decide to post. Planet Minecraft is a "community" website which means there will be a wide range of different skilled people. There is no set standard for anything that is built in Minecraft, it's a game. I don't understand how one person can decide whether or not another person's project is spam, it is only that person's opinion which is not subject to other people. Everyone who comes on PMC should be able to post what they want, no matter how good or bad they are. Why did it ever matter how good someone's project was? What happened to the open freedom? The fun?

If someone posts a project on PMC, no matter how good or bad, they just want to be able to share the experience of gaining recognition for their build like everyone else who posts things. They just want to have fun. Why should they be put down?

I hope this gave you a good perspective on the above issues. I also trust that you don't take everything too literally because sometimes people do make mistakes. Its been a while since I last blogged, so I hope you enjoyed reading this one! It took me a lot of thought, but I finally found a way to approach this issue without putting the blame on individuals. Until next time...

Keep Crafting,
-HJ

-=BTW, Happy 3rd Birthday PMC!!=-

Oh it's not just sad that someone puts more effort into advertisig than into the thing itself. He drags attention to his crap while objectively better products remain unseen. That is a problem not only on the internet. I can see that everywhere and I'm not just sad, I'm pissed. IMHO the effort to manipulate others with untruthful advertising is inherently bad.

I've come with a few conclusions based from Neuroscience. But there are many circumstances needed. I understand the Internet more than most people. It is very weird, well in real life. On the internet it's just normal.

Oh believe me, the Internet is very weird. There's a social hierarchy based on a thumb pointing upwards. If you haven't Reddit, you haven't read it. Information is sold for money. The Internet is the weirdest place people have been since the moon.

See.. There is this first sentence that i kinda agree with, but at the same time not:"someone learns more about how to advertise their project than actually work on it."
I never had any class about how to advertise, nor did someone ever taught me how to, and that's the reason why i don't advertise very much.
Me and my friends had made a very modest server, we had a lot of ambitions for it, we worked for well over 4 months, perfectioning the spawn so people would like it at the first connection.

When i first posted it, here on PMC, i was very excited to see people coming and talking to us, i was excited to have those people who ask for op, i was excited to see those people that come and just treathen us of DDoSing us. All of what we see on usual servers as soon as they simply update their server's page.

Well that didn't happen. I posted it, with a very modest title, a description about what the server was like, the main rules, the goals, etc.

And see, i connected everyday during a week on our server, every day from 12:00pm to 10pm.
Bumped the server's page every day between 4 and 6pm.
After that week, i just got weak(Get it?) And i just let it go, i abandoned.

Do you know how many people connected on our server? A whole total of 5 person; one decided to stay, 2 decided to leave right away, and the 2 others? They were the other members of staff, my friends.

That's why being honest on the internet doesn't pay.
Advertising catches the eye, and that's what people want. They want something that catches their eye, not a modest little server that is starting slowly but planning on expanding as time goes.

And here,
Thanks for reading this Blog-Comment,
Thanks for your time, And as always:

Such a shame to hear that honestly, but it's true that being honest on the internet is always tricky. Not to say it doesn't do anything. Honest things attract honest people. To be honest, I would've enjoyed joining.
I love the feeling of being in a small community where everyone knows eachother and everything seems almost utopian in appearance, but sadly this taste of mine made me witness the demise of many servers I frequented, causing me to migrate more than I'd like.

Basically, it's not a total lost cause, it's just a throw of the dice. I really hope it all works out for you in the future.

Well, I'm glad to see you saw the first sentence, but ... did you read the rest of the blog? The reason I wrote this blog was in response to a lot of people getting their hair in a knot about "spam projects". My motif throughout this blog is to say "why do you care so much about what other people do?"

I understand where you're coming from, I've been there. I wrote this blog to say "the internet is a strange place, weird things go on" so hopefully people who read it would understand that what they worry about is not worth their time. I know it's hard to make it the honest way, I can respect that. I hope that you didn't think this blog was harping on people who over-advertise, this blog is supposed to make people think.

Oh.. Well, yeah.. I may have skipped over a few words. I just had to write that before it goes out of my head.

And.. Well, i don't have any peculiar words to add to what i read of the three other paragraphs..(4?)

*Awkward me trying to think of something nice to say:*
Uuh, well, Yeah. Internet is Definitely weird.

I nearly choked on a bite of cookie during my transformation from bored teen to excited fangirl just now :D
Though I must admit I still get overexcited about diamonds and favourites on my submissions, the best part of PMC, to me, is getting feedback about my projects from other people, who love the things I love. I do like writing, but art is what I have a passion for, so that's why I make skins. Anyway, congrats on another amazing blog :D
