The PMC Skin Previewer should show the hat in relief


Hey guys !
I've always wondered : Why does the previewer doesn't show the hat in 3D ?
As you can see, this would be really easy !
I made these pictures very fast, and I don't think it would be difficult to make it automaticly
It would make a lot of skins look better
Espacially the ones that have a "normal hat" (like this one) because it just seems they wear a weird cap
So, please, PMC mods, add this little fonction to the previewer !
It's easy, and it's useful
By the way, you can find the skins I used for the examples here : Hawkeye, War and Kung Lao... ;)

the way it is now is too extreme...these heads look huge. I don't think it should stay until you can make it more like the 3D looks. I would say a half pixel would be perfect. Right now it is a full pixel more.

Yeah you're right, and that's what Paril explained
3D features are too big, but maybe Paril will be able to fix it to make it look better
But I think it's always better than no hat preview (just my opinion, I can understand people don't like how it looks now)

Just so everybody knows - Cyprezz has seen this article, loved it, and I took it upon myself to request the code segment from him and fix it up myself.

Note that it doesn't look as good as the mock-ups he made above due to technical limitations - I had to use a full pixel in order for it to look "right" and not blurry as heck.

Note that existing skins won't be updated until we make sure it's working properly and that everybody likes it. If it gets bad reviews we'll revert it and just fix the skins which were made afterwards.

Also, that's a pretty obscure meaning of the word "relief." Or maybe it isn't, but I definitely haven't heard it before.
But, apparently it is the perfect word for the job. Kudos to you for using it!

"relief: the projection of figures or forms from a flat background, as in
sculpture, or the apparent projection of such shapes in a painting or
drawing."

There is a good reason that this isn't implemented; my program, MCSkin3D, doesn't "relief" the helmet/hat either. It might sound like a good idea in theory, but because of the way 2D drawing works and offsetting, it generally doesn't look good.

I will however experiment and see if maybe a workaround (such as your screenshots imitate) is plausible.
