Hello Ladies and Gentleblocks, welcome to another blogpost. Today I'm going to be talking about the dreaded and revered Popular Reel that all users dream of hitting one day or another, but is it becoming an obsession for some? The reality is, its quite difficult to make it.
Before being able to make the reel, you should know what makes the reel tick. The popular reel consists of two of the most 'popular' submissions in each section (Projects, Texture Packs, etc...). These will usually be the submissions with the most amount of diamond:view:favourites ratio over a short amount of time (don't ask for the algorithm, I have no idea) which combined creates a number that then ranks your submission.
As ZaphodX mentioned in his very popular post "How to make the popular reel", Mods are easy to get on the reel, Skins and Blogs semi-easy, Texture Packs somewhat difficult and Projects very difficult. Competition is even fiercer in the sections when elite members post, Greytopher for blogging, Leostereo for skins, aurelien_sama for projects, etc...
A good idea is to not post during an influx of posts from higher levelled members otherwise your submission won't make the reel because it would've been pushed out.
That is how the popular reel works basically. Get lots of diamonds and views and favourites in a short amount of time and you'll make the reel.
Many users (in fact all users) at some point dream of being on 'Planet Minecraft's Front Page', has a nice ring to it. Some strive so hard to get to it that in fact they lose the ability to create quality-intensive posts that just don't reflect their ability that well.
Obsession is a curious part of the human mind as it can present itself in various ways such as addiction (yes, being addicted to drugs presents a form of obsession) or OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Some cases of obsession can result in violence and depression but lets not go too far.
Obsession is quite common amongst PMC members for wanting to get to the popular reel. Planet Minecraft now accommodates close to 600,000 total members and with only 12 slots on the Reel, it is quite the thing to make it. I myself have made it over 8 times in the past month and it certainly makes a difference.
A lot of low-levelled members really work hard to have the honor of being on there and some do make it. Recently my friend dingousa (not really low level) made the popular reel for the first time, and he is overwhelmed by the feeling.
Some however become so obsessed with wanting to make it that their submissions become shabby and effortless as they try to put out as much content as possible. They then fall down because none of their submissions made it so they continue to put out poor content, they advertise furiously in the Chat Lobby which causes them to get kicked or even worse banned, they then make a 'Rage' blog directed at a mod which gets them reported.
A pretty nasty chain of events don't you think? As bad as it sounds, I've seen it happen. The amount of low-levelled members that just furiously post content without caring about what they've put is unreal. This needs to stop, that isn't how you're going to make the popular reel.
The fact of the matter is, if you're trying to make a popular reel like 550,000 odd other members, it is going to be verrrrry difficult. The reality is that you have to work very hard to make it to the reel. ZaphodX's post is probably the best pointer anyone can give to how to make it but don't get obsessed with making it there. Keep posting quality-intensive content and keep striving to providing good posts for the community and you will get recognised and you will eventually make the reel.
