You may have noticed me making rounds around the forums and chat to promote my project (click here!). It's an entry for the resort contest.
Let me start by saying I found out about the contest about two weeks before the due date. I worked my butt off and stayed up late night after night to get it done. Though the final result wasn't quite what I had expected, it was satisfactory and anyways, I had to post it because of the impeding (I think that's the right word) deadline.
The issue is that every time I'd log on to Planet Minecraft I would see contest entries featured on the front page. Though these entries are superior to anything I've ever built, there are a few problems with featuring them:
  • Other people who thought of entering the contest are discouraged and decide not to enter because they think it's hopeless.
  • People browsing the site see the projects and click on them, as opposed to the projects in the entries section that are not visited.
  • The featured projects now have an unfair advantage from the publicity, and only get more popular.
  • The most popular submissions continue to be the most popular until the judging portion of the contest, and now they are practically guaranteed a spot in the top 100. It isn't fair for those of us who posted their entries at a time when less people were looking at the entries.

It's really awesome when someone submits a full scale replica of the Sydney Opera House or something built on the island, but couldn't we put those projects on the front page after the contest is ended? If you just view random entries you will see that 90% of them have 2 comments and 10% of them have buckets of diamonds and downloads. I'm not saying we shouldn't let the community judge the entries, but the chances should be balanced for everyone regardless of popularity.

So yeah... that's what I have to say. I'll promote my map once more, in the hope someone will diamond/comment/download it.

I agree with you, and though you made this a while ago, the same thing happened to me on my cave entry... thanks for diamonding & favoriting it though, and congrats on making it into the finalists :3

I understand what you're saying, although I don't completely agree with it. I'm optimistic enough to think that the judges try to be completely subjective when judging, and don't take into account how 'popular' a skin is. I'm no judge, though, so I couldn't say for sure.
