Chapter 1
Mittens woke up with a start. She had drempt that a voice in her head kept telling her she was the one, the one to save the clan. Clan? What clan? And why her? She was only a kitten. All she could do was wrestle with her littermates and mew when she needed help. She didnt even sound threatning. She went back to sleep.
Suddenly, she woke to the sound of her mother's hissing and her brother's and sister's frantic mewing. She followed the sound to where she saw her littermates in a box with with a wierd, door-like metalic thing on the front. She heard her mother scream for her to run and looked behind her to see a giant hand coming for her! She bolted for the kitty door she saw her mother often go through and ran into the woods.
Once in the woods, she hid under a bush untill well after the sun went down. Suddenly, she smelled more cats. She then heard rustling behind here and turned to see about four to five cats all hovering over her. One called " Firestar, come here! We found a kit! She looks like shes barely three moons old!" She saw a cat approach the group. He had a flaming orange pelt and green eyes. Apparently this was "Firestar".
Suddenly, she felt herself lifted off the ground. Firestar had picked her up and was now carrying her to thier camp. He explained that he would have a queen look after her until she could be an apprentice. As they came over a hill, she saw in front of her a large expanse of water. It was beautiful in the moonlight! Next thing she knew, she was in a den with a she-cat nursing kits of about her size.Feeling sleepy, she closed her eyes. She had enough exitement for one day.
Chapter 2
When Mittens awoke the next morning, she was greeted by Firestar. "Today, we will give you your name." he said. "But I already have a name." Mittens replied. "That was given to you by twolegs. This will be the name that all the cats of the forest will call you." said Firestar.
At sunhigh, Firestar called a meeting to the highledge. "Last night, a patrol, including me, found this kit. She was hiding under a bush when we found her and told us what happened to her siblings." Firestar then explained what the twolegs had done to her littermates and how her mother told her to run into the forest." We believe she is the cat who Leafpool saw a vision from StarClan. So I have decided to name her Rainkit." With that, the whole clan called her name. "Rainkit, Rainkit, Rainkit!"
"She looks a little bit like Bluestar!" One cat called. "She does have a dark blue shine to her dark fur" another agreed. As if on cue, the sun shone down on Rainkit and her fur really started shining a dark blue shine. Suddenly, a light brown she-cat with amber eyes gasped. "Firestar, that is what I saw in my vision!". "Leafpool, come to my den and we can talk about it more." Firestar called.
Frencloud, the queen who was nursing her, led her back to the nursery. There she played with Icekit and Foxkit until they got hungery. Everyday seemed like this until one special day...
Firestar approached her and the other two kits and announced that they were going to be made apprentices! He told them they were now old enough, and he discussed it with Ferncloud, and the ceremony was going to be at sunhigh. Rainkit, Icekit, and Foxkit were so excited!!
Before the ceremony, Ferncloud groomed them to perfection. Then Firestar called the clan to the highledge for a clan meeting. Rainkit's stomach did flips of exitement.
"I am happy to announce that we have three new apprentices!" Firestar said. "Icekit. You are now known as Icepaw. Your mentor will be Brackenfur." Rainkit turned to see a golden brown tabby tom touch noses with Icepaw. "Brackenfur, I trust you will pass on all of your knowlege and skills to Icepaw." "I will." replied Brackenfur. "Foxkit. You are now Foxpaw." Foxpaw stuck his chest out proudly. "Your mentor will be Sorreltail." Foxpaw touched noses with a tortishell and white she-cat. "And finally, Rainkit." Rainkit stood next to Firestar. "You will now be known as Rainpaw." Rainpaw had a look of confidence and happiness in her eyes. "You will be mentored by me." Firestar said. Rainpaw was excited and suprised as well. The clan leader was mentoring her?! She touched noses with Firestar. She thought she saw a hint of hope in his eyes. She blamed it on the sun creating an effect. But she coudn't help but feel a funny feeling in her stomach. Not bad, just in fact it was almost s if something was telling her that she would be a hero someday and help save something important...
Chapter 3
As Rainpaw stepped down from the highledge, she was greeted by Icepaw and Foxpaw and all the other apprentices. One apprentice in particular, gave her a special greeting. She came out of nowhere and bowled right into Rainpaw. After tumbling over eachother, they ended right in front of the apprentices den. Rainpaw got up to see who this cat was. She had pale gold fur and hazel eyes. "Hi! I'm Sandpaw!" "I'm Rainpaw" Rainpaw replied. She could see that her and Sandpaw were going to be best friends. "Let me show you the apprentices den. I've already made a bed for you." said Sandpaw. As the two apprentices walked into the den, Rainpaw could smell the other apprentice's beds of moss. Sandpaw showed her where she would sleep, it was right next to her. As Rainpaw settled down for the night, she knew she would be a very happy apprentice.
The next day, the two were woken up by Firestar and Cloudtail, Sandpaw's mentor. "Today, we will show you the territory. Since it will take a while, Firestar and I have decided to show you both together." "Yay!" Both Rainpaw and Sandpaw cried. As they headed out, Rainpaw and Sandpaw saw Icepaw and Foxpaw being taught how to change out the elder's bedding. "I'm glad were not them." Said Sandpaw. "You are learning that today though." Said Cloudtail. "Aw come on!" Replied Sandpaw.
As the group approached the lake, they smelled Riverclan. Suddenly, the bushes parted to reval a Riverclan cat with golden brown fur. Firestar hissed and Cloudtail demanded"What are you doing on Thunderclan territory!?" "Please! Help me! I left my clan because they were mean to me and I came here for help." replied the she cat. "Why would Riverclan bully one of its warriors?" asked Firestar. "I'm actually an apprentice named Cometpaw, and it's because of my eyes." Cometpaw, who had been looking down, looked up to reveal violet eyes. Rainpaw ans Sandpaw looked at eachother in bewilderment. Cometpaw began to sob. "see, even they think I'm wierd!"" No we don't. We just have never seen a cat with violet eyes." Replied Rainpaw. They led the sobbing apprentice back to the camp. Once there, Sandpaw and Rainpaw led Cometpaw to the apprentice's den where they made her a bed next to thiers. By then, the apprentice was calmed down. She even curled up in her bed and went to sleep. The other two left her alone and went to find the other apprentices.
They told the other apprentices about Cometpaw. By the time they were done it was sundown. They all made thier way to the den. Rainpaw and Sandpaw settled down in thier beds and went to sleep. Rainpaw was happy to be an apprentice. She wouldn't have made 2 new friends if she hadn't ran from those twolegs and come here. She glanced at Sandpaw and Cometpaw as they slept, and smiled as she went to sleep.
Chapter 4
When Rainpaw woke up the next morning, Sandpaw and Cometpaw were outside eating mice. Rainpaw said good morning and went to the fresh kill pile to pick out a mice as well. As she joined toe group, Firestar came over to talk to her. "Today I will teach you some basig hunting and fighting moves." he said. Rainpaw quickily ate her mouse and followed Firestar to the patch of moss where the apprentices train.
"I am first going to show you the hunter's crouch. This is very important because this is basically how you sneak up on prey." Firestar then got down in a low crouch to the point that his belly fur scraped the ground. Rainpaw copied what he did. "Good!" Firestar praised. "Some things you need to remember when you catch your prey are to make sure the wind is blowing twoards you. Then your prey cant smell you." "ok" Rainpaw said. Just then, she saw a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eye.She turned to see a mouse. Making sure the wind was blowing twoards her, she got into a hunting crouch. Just as she was about to sneak up on it, Firestar touched her shoulder with his tail and motioned for her to get back. Then he got in a hunting crouch, snuck up on the mouse, and sprang on it, killing it with one swift blow. "Wow! That was cool!" exclaimed Rainpaw.
"Now let's work on fighting moves." said Firestar. "Let me show you a basic move." Firestar then ran at a bush, but just as it looked like he was going to run into it, he doged it, stuck out his paw and hit the base with his paw. "now you try on me, but aim for my legs to unbalance me like I hit that bush." Rainpaw ran full speed at Firestar and at the last second, dodged him and hit his hind legs just as he had shown her. "Woa! That was really good!" Firestar exclaimed. Rainpaw was pleased she was able to master that on her first try! "This next move is more defense than offense." Firestar explained. "Watch me." Just as Firestar was about to start, Sandstorm, another warrior, came bursting through the trees. "Firestar come quick, Shadow clan has attacked the camp!" Firestar ran of after her with Rainpaw following close behind. As they approached the camp, Rainpaw heard the angry screeches of cats and smell the awful smell of Shadowclan. When they entered the camp, there was a flurry of cats all attacking eachother and running with tails tucked, or running after another cat. Firestar launched himself into battle with an angry screech. Rainpaw also went into battle. She was scared and angry at the same time. Suddenly, she saw a Shadowclan warrior coming for her! She ran right at him and caught him off balance from the trick she learned with Firestar. She bolted off before he could hurt her. She saw Sandpaw, and together they made it to the outer layer of fighting. Sandpaw had a scratch along her flank, but otherwise looked ok. "Lets get out of here!" Sandpaw exclaimed. Together, they found a place where they could squeeze out of camp and headed off into the forest.
