Ermahgurd guud grammer mode activate!

Theres been alot of misconception behind the DMCA on craftbukkit, so I'm here to tell you the latest up-to-date correct news about it.

First off, Mojang owning craftbukkit has to do with this! So heres some background info you'll need to know before I tell ya the good stuff. Warren A.K.A EvilSeph was the head developer of craftbukkit before he handed it over to Mojang. Wesley Wolfe, A.K.A. Wolverness also worked on craftbukkit. Now, lets start our story at the release of 1.8. So, only a few hours after craftbukkit for 1.8 was released, the craftbukkit download page turned into:

Subject: [SL] [abuse-google] Copyright

My name is Wesley Wolfe. A site hosted on an IP address owned by Multiplay

of a software known as CraftBukkit.

The provided license requires the use of included or linking code to
provide the original source under the GNU GPL license version 3, or any
later version. An official notice has been sent to Mojang AB, whereas the
Chief Operating Officer, Vu Bui, responded with the clear text:

Mojang has not authorized the inclusion of any of its proprietary
Minecraft software (including its Minecraft Server software) within the
Bukkit project to be included in or made subject to any GPL or LGPL
license, or indeed any other open source license

As the Minecraft Server software is included in CraftBukkit, and the
original code has not been provided or its use authorized, this is a
violation of my copyright. I have a good faith belief the distribution of
CraftBukkit includes content of which the distribution is not authorized by
the copyright owner, it's agent, or the law.

Pages including infringing content:

infringing content beginning on craftbukkit build #1597 and currently
ending at craftbukkit build #3115, but please allow me not to enumerate
them all

TL;DR, Wesley Wolfe, one of the people who worked on craftbukkit, just filed a copyright claim on craftbukkit and he succeced on taking it down.

Mojang, the current owner of craftbukkit and the creator of minecraft, will probably not talk about this until their lawyers are ready.

Breaking news! I found something from a spigot forum that explains alot!

More news will be added as I find more info, if you enjoyed, be sure to diamond and subscribe!
Yay i can deactivate guud grammer mode now!

Basically, Wesely's takedown notice forced Mojang to reveal that they owned Craftbukkit, but in doing so came the realization that Craftbukkit has been proprietary for the past 2 years. People developing for Craftbukkit have been unwittingly submitting free work under false pretences to a 2.5b dollar company... Thus the mass exodus of the Craftbukkit developers.

With the facts that we have available, it seems that Wolverness and any of the Craftbukkit developers not hired by Mojang deserve to seek damages from Mojang.

If Bukkit and Spigot die, I expect some people to make a new version (not minecraft version) of them and just start from scratch. Perhaps mojang will do that. That'd probably mean that all versions below 1.8 won't have a basis for though...

That is explanation for EvilSeph's post. Completely different things are going on right now, and they threaten Bukkit's life.

Yes, Bukkit is currently under a heavy state and Minecraft might die if Mojang does a wrong turn. Read the link on the post.
