Steve was already at the entrance of the stronghold, before he noticed it was soon to be night time. The man was still waiting. As soon as Steve climbed out of the stronghold, the man immediately handed him a book. It had no title, or author, but it had an inscription written on the inside of the cover
"12 eyes or die"
"Oh, well that's simple." Steve said with a nervous chuckle. Funny how the most complex situation had the easiest hints.
Steve opened the book to find about 10 pages of illustrations. No writing besides labels under pictures that took up a whole page. The pictures were more like instructions, than an actual book.
The first page showed a tall, slender creature, with purple snowflakes floating around. Under it said "Enderman". It looked like there was another letter before the word. The letter had a curve to it, but it was too scratched out to actually see what full word is.
The second page showed a place that brought a feeling of shame, guilt, and even fear. Just looking at it brought bad thoughts to him. Thoughts of murder, suicide, and many, many other things. The illustration appeared to be a hellish looking place. Lava flowing off mountains of blood red grotesque body parts, mixed together. Fire appeared to be all around, even burning on top of the bloody looking blocks. Oceans of lava swept around, engulfing many different creatures in flames, as they fell from mountains of the bloody blocks. The creatures appeared to be undead humans, mixed together with a pig. It carried a golden sword around with it, in hopes of finding something to kill. Under the picture it said "Nether".
The third page didn't show much, it just showed a massive fortress inside the Nether, and there was some sort of fire demon on the ground, dead due to being shot by an arrow. Over it was a person that looked exactly like Steve. The person was holding a golden stick triumphantly. Under the picture it said "Blaze rod"
The fourth page showed the man that looked like Steve, breaking the blaze rod and rubbing it over a greenish-blue pearl. The powder wrapped around the pearl causing it to turn into what seemed like an eye. Under it said "Eye of Ender"
Steve froze and realized, that this book was made for him. Or so he thought. He flipped back and in every picture, he realized that there was a man that looked like Steve in every one. Maybe, that was Steve. But how? How could someone know that this could happen? Then he remembered that he was attacked by abnormal creatures, so if that happened, then anything can happen. But still, who could even predict this? He gave up quickly on how someone knows this, and started focusing on following the instructions. He then started looking at the rest of the pages for answers.
The fifth page showed Steve throwing an eye, and following it to wherever it was going. Under it, it said "Follow"
The sixth page showed the eye Steve was throwing, fall into a stronghold, just like the one that was near him. Under it, it said "Find". He figured he didn't have to worry about finding a stronghold, considering there was one right next to the village.
The seventh page showed Steve putting all of the eyes in the slots, like he saw before. Under it, it said "Die".
Usually something saying "Die" under it, is a bit unsettling. And it was to Steve, but not as much as it seems. He pretty much grasped the notion of him getting murdered by the creatures.
Steve turned to page eight, and saw that it was scratched out. Along with the label under it. He then flipped to the next page, same thing. Then he went to page 10. Same thing. If someone wanted him to do something, then why not tell him everything. Figuring he had nothing else to read, he closed the book and went to turn back to the man. He was gone. And it was nightfall.
Steve just really didn't give a damn if it was night. He had killed several creatures, learned that someone is determining his every move, and he didn't really have a say in the matter. So he just walked back to the man's house, care free.
By time he got to the man's house, he was exhausted. It was a longer walk than it looked. He closed the door behind him and sat down on the man's wooden couch. He sat down and stretched. Steve was incredibly tired and laid down, put the book on a nearby table, and fell asleep.
The man was still awake. Watching Steve fall asleep, and when he did, the man left the house and walked across the village to another man's house. The man walked into the other man's house. The other man had a portly build to him, and scruffy beard. He wore a small looking top hat.
"Where is he?" the other man asked anxiously.
"Sleeping on my couch"
"Does he know yet?"
"I think he just figured it out, Markus."
