Ah, what we thought was going to be Illumination's next big thing. The Secret Life of Pets looked like a crowd-pleaser when we first saw it. And those visuals! Oh how beautiful they were! But when the movie came, I'm not sure if this movie deserves a doggie biscuit as much as it wants one. Here I will be delving into the hype train crash (Well, for me at least.) that was The Secret Life of Pets.

Now I'm gonna throw the movie a bone here and talk about what I enjoyed most about it. I love the subject matter. I mean, who doesn't love their pets? If you don't, then why do have one? I mean, that what pets do best. Anyway, eight-year-old me would be demanding to see this movie. Plus, the design of the characters would always make you want to cuddle them. They're just SO CUTE!!!!! But I didn't write this blog to talk about the good stuff, oh no. Let's go a little deeper and see what we can find.

When I saw this movie, there was something that disappointed me, but it didn't occur to me until later. Then it hit me. There was no energy or chaos in this movie. Now that is truly upsetting. The Despicable Me movies and Minions had this sort of organized pandemonium that made the movie fun and crazy. The minions were the best example of this, and they were the result of a BUDGET CUT. They were originally supposed to be like Storm Troopers, but they didn't have the money to make them. But with The Secret Life of Pets, here was their chance. They could do so much more, show off their talent... or just make an O.K. movie. Sure, why not. Now, as I said before, the aesthetics of this movie are superb. I just wish they could have done something more with all the resources they have.

Oh no, get back here Secret Life of Pets. SIT! STAY! Ok, good. Now, let's discuss the story we have here, or lack there of. As visually pleasing The Secret Life of Pets is, it's not enough to distract from how barely anything is happening. Yes, it does scratch the itch for a story, but that's all it does. Plus, when you have the same score as the Ghostbusters reboot on Rotten Tomatoes, (Which it wasn't the worst ever. DON'T HURT ME!) then you probably haven't done enough with your story. But hey, what do you expect, they're animals. Well, a lot from the trailer you gave me. But I can't get too mad at this movie. I mean, look at those characters. Awww.

All in all, The Secret Life of Pets is not a bad movie, just a "meh" one. I mean, there are movies WAY worse in theaters right now. Just look at The Legend of Tarzan and Independence Day: Resurgence. Poor Indepedence Day. I'm sorry that happened to you. So The Secret Life of Pets gets a pat on the head for its visuals, but it doesn't get a treat for the boring story.

So what do you guys think? I know my opinion is different than yours, so I want to hear what you thought of The Secret Life of Pets. See ya next time! :)

Spoiler Alert! By Gawsh!

I saw a Few Easter Eggs in there like the "Sing" Poster (Their Newest Movie Coming Soon) and the "Let it Grow" hat, which is a song from The Lorax. Also that Gnome from the short appeared in the movie too. It kept me engaged from the loads of Easter Eggs in there, and definitely made me laugh more in the movies than something like Ghostbusters 3 (Never saw it thankfully! :3). The Only thing that made me cringe a bit was Duke's Design. It almost looks like O'Hare from the Lorax, which creeped me out as a kid. I did spheal with it thankfully, and it was a pretty good movie. And am I the only one who can't wait for Nine Lives? :o
