In the time before time, when the earth was young and the heavens still whispered secrets to the stars, four goddesses descended from the sky. Their names were Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, and Opal, daughters of the great and enigmatic Amethyst. Sent forth by their mother to find a sanctuary upon the earth, they came to the island of Pellele, a place where men had learned the ways of fire and stone, and their hearts burned with desire for knowledge.

The people of Pellele, curious and ambitious, greeted the sisters with open arms, masking their darker intentions. They led the goddesses to a hidden corner of the land, where the gaze of the gods could not see. But the humans had more in mind than hospitality. In secret, they bound the goddesses in chains and began cruel experiments, seeking to unlock the secret of immortality. Each sister was ravaged for her divine essence: Sapphire’s leg, Emerald’s arm, Ruby’s face, and Opal’s hands and feet—taken as offerings to the gods of science, then painfully sewn back together.

Their blood was spilled upon the earth, mingling with the life of a mortal, transforming her into something beyond human. The scientists, cold-hearted in their pursuit, called this woman "The Anomaly," for she was neither human nor god, but something in between. And so, they tested upon her, stripping her of her humanity and leaving her a hollow shell.

The goddesses, broken and betrayed, whispered among themselves. With newfound strength, they and the Anomaly struck down the lab, shattering the chains that bound them. But one among the scientists escaped, and as she fled, the hand of Amethyst fell upon her. The mother goddess cursed the woman, binding her to immortality, destined to live until she could erase every trace of the Anomaly’s kind from the earth.

Yet the Anomaly, infused with the divine blood of the four sisters, grew in power. In time, she became more mighty than all the gods. And so, a bargain was struck: The Anomaly, now the most powerful of beings, offered the sisters a chance to rule the island they had once been denied. The island of Pellele would be divided into four realms, each to be ruled by one goddess. But there was a condition: no goddess could reign alone. Each must find a mortal companion to rule with them, for only in unity could they claim their thrones.

And so, the sisters ventured forth, one by one, eldest to youngest, to seek the mortal who would share their rule. In their travels, they crafted new life to inhabit the world of men.

Ruby, in the depths of the sea, birthed the mermaids—creatures of the deep, with scales that shimmered like stars. They built a city beneath the waves, a sanctuary for those who could swim in the mysteries of the ocean.

Opal, with a breath of wind, gave birth to the sylphs—spirits of air, who floated among the clouds, their bodies light as the breeze. They built their castles in the heavens, watching over the earth, and brought mortals to their airy sanctuaries.

Sapphire, from the shadows of the forest, created the pùca—shape-shifters with animal traits. These creatures could turn into beasts of every kind, their human forms marked by wild, untamable nature.

Emerald, in the heart of the mountains, forged the gnomes—small but wise, creatures of stone and earth. They carved homes from the rock and watched over the land with ancient eyes.

And so, the island of Pellele was divided, each goddess ruling her realm, but none could claim dominion without her mortal companion. They waited for the ones they would love, the ones who would share in their fate, and the future of the island was sealed in the blood of gods and mortals alike.
