Hello! Hovstr here, and today I am going to tell you about my experience behind griefing, and why most griefers do what they do.
"Griefing is the act of irritating and angering people in video games through the use of destruction, construction, or social engineering. Popularized in Minecraft by teams, griefing has become a serious problem for server administrators who wish to foster building and protect builders. Most players tend to dislike and frown upon griefing, while others feel it adds a certain degree of drama to the game."

#1 - Boredom
So, sometimes people will be on a server for a little too long, get kinda tired of repetitive chats, games, and just not being able to do anything "fun". So what do they do to solve this problem?
They solve it by pissing people off. Making them not have a fun time, because for some people (even me), when people get mad, angry, sad, ect. It makes the person who caused those emotions laugh, alot. It makes them feel good, and less bored. They also might like to start fights, and just imagine the other players reactions behind their little avatars.
#2 - Anger
Now, some might not be bored, but just flat out angry. Maybe lost a mini-game, or maybe even got griefed themselves. So how do they solve it?
They get revenge, the only thing that feels good besides saying "Stop it.". They make sure that the other players/opposing team gets the worst experience that they ever had. Pretty much just because the griefer lost, or got mad.
#3 - Pressure
They might have had some friends online that they already knew or just met, and those people might have wanted revenge, but maybe got banned, kicked, or extremely bullied for their actions. So those people put the user under extreme pressure to grief them/him/her for their pleasure. Sometimes using threats like "If you don't i'll kill you" or "I won't be your friend anymore" Which makes the specific user upset, to the point where they feel like they hafto do it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, don't get me wrong, I know most of this not from looking at other griefing blogs, but because I have griefed, and it was mostly out of boredom for me. I found it hilarious seeing people get trapped in blocks at the spawn or scream at me for it. After a while I got temp-banned for it. I always thought it was worth it though.
I am in no way encouraging anyone to grief. The truth is I can't stop you, so if you feel like getting screamed at, go right ahead. It wont end in victory though.
I honestly believe that griefing will never stop, just like bullying, the sadistic feelings underneath the emotions of some users will just never go away, no matter how old they are, what they are feeling, ect.
That's about it! I hope this blog did what I encouraged it to do, which was inform, and possibly entertain?

Very informative.
Diamond.
What I'm trying to say is that if you want this to be accurate I'd suggest interviewing griefers. Then if you get a wide range of griefers interviewed you could have a more in depth answer to why they grief. This could potentially help to stop griefing if that is your mission. If not good post anyways.
