Hey guys! So, I've been meaning to write a follow up blog for my PMC of the Past blog, but I never really got around to it until now. So, anyway, hope you enjoy!

Where is PMC going next?

Well, I begain my search by PMing about infinity people asking for their oppinions. People seemed generally split into two groups, the newer users (joined <1 year ago) and the older users (joined > 1.5 years ago). These groups do not corralate with levels or popularily; there are people that aren;t even 6 months old and are massively popular, others who have been here almost as long as I have and still hardly ever get noticed. My next little enterprise was looking at what's on the pop reel now and comparing it to a) the MOST popular posts ever and b) my favourites from several years ago, to take a look at how the comunity has changed and extrapolate on where it's going next.

Part A: Asking around the comunity

Well, like said, they were generally split into two groups. The younger group were very optimistic, saying that the content and the comunity are improving and, they beleive, will only continue to improve. The second, older group, thought the opposite: that the content and the comunity are declining and will continue to decline. There are, of course, legitament points for each side. The younger people are right in the sense that the application is improving. In the skinning section, for example, shading is solid and the lighting on each skin is real-life accurate. A year and a half ago, people were still figuring out how shading should work. Mechanics across all areas of PMC are improving; in general posts look cleaner than they were before. The older group, however, saw something that I don't think the younger group, simply due to th fact that they haven't been aroound as long, could have seen: a decline in originality. This was a consisten pattern. Yes, the mechanics are getting better, but we're seeing the same thing voer and over, not literally but in concept. As I said, both sides are legitament, but they have different perspectives.

Part B: Compring posts to those of the PMC of yesterday

So, next I took a look at the kind of stuff on the pop reel today and compared it to older posts. My findings -- both groups groups of people are right. The posts definitely look cleaner, but they're all the same thing. Perviously, we had adventure maps (remember those?), redstone projects, RPG texture packs, skins from all sources and of all styles, short stories, interviews, and tutorials all up on the pop reel. Now we have super well executed RPG builds, more RPG builds, female cartoon/anime skins, more anime skins... the content isn't any worse, the scope is just narrower. My research shows that both groups of users are right, they're just not seeing the whole picture.

So just where are we headed?

Allow me to use an analogy. The PMC I joined what seems like a lifetime ago was like the light from the moon. Our content was super spread out, with lots of variation. There were no comunity trends because there were very few users here. However, the light wasn't very noticable, just like the light from the moon. We were fringe. Then PMC progressed to looking more like a street lamp. Trends started to emerge, and the light became more focused, but more than that, it became noticable. Unlike the light from the moon, you can actually see the light from a streetlamp. Eventually, I think, PMC will be a lazer beam -- super intense, enough to cut through steel, but very narrow. PMC will be like someone light a doctorate degree (you learn more and more about less and less until you know everything about nothing at all. :P) But in all seriousness, I think we'll end up being super good at what e do, but not do very many different things. This is not good or bad, just different. It will seem unnatural to those used to the moon ora streetlamp, and so they may think that the site is gettign worse, but those starting out with a lzer will find something like a streetlight very peculiar indeed; they'll want to keep making lazer content. Do you see what I'm getting at? We won't be any better or worse, just different.

So there's my take on it! I hope you all enjoyed; drop a diamond if you did. What I would really appreciate though is if you checked out my skin for this week. I worked super hard on it, and am really looking for feedback, since I tried a new style for it.

Until next week! Enraric out.

I think you painted a very accurate portrayal of PMC's future.  Sorry I was late to commenting, I haven't been on PMC for a couple days. Keep making these blogs, even if it's just for a couple people! +1

It's not even that, it's just like nobody cares. I don't know why I even bother.
