Hey there PMC, Cooper here with a cool Survival Challenge!
I stumbled upon this idea, tried it myself, and had a blast. Although it was created a while back (August 2012), it still works. A link to the original post is included in the Additional Credits.
This challenge has 11 "Stages" and one "Optional Stage", each stage containing its own Requirements and Restrictions.
So, without further ado, I bring you;
The Village Challenge
Gamemode Objectives:
- Construct a village.
- Maintain a renewable Testificate population (at least two, who are able to breed).
- Thrive.
Settings:
- The group is to receive a total of eight netherrack blocks, thirty-two cobblestone slabs and two flint and steel. These are used to create campfires and only campfires.
- The group is to receive eight apples per player, three pieces of bread per player, four cooked pork per player and a fishing rod per player.
- Each player is to receive twelve emerald 'coins' for trade with the Testificates.
- Torches cannot be placed outside.
- The group is to receive six Testificate Eggs.
- The Testificate Population requirement will increase. More huts than mentioned will be required.
Global Rules:
- Surface stone "skimming" is allowed at game start. Stone must be in direct line of sight with sky, only a single layer may be mined.
- Furnaces cannot be built or used until Stage Five.
- Stone cannot be used for anything other than tools until Stage Three.
- Cannot create plant farms (wheat, sugarcane, etc) until Stage Four.
- Cannot cage herd animals (Cows, chickens, pigs) until Stage Four - Hunting only.
- Each furnace must have a hollow, stone chimney - In effect all game.
Fertile Land Suggestions:
Plenty of trees, or at least a near by forest/jungle. An immediate fresh water source is all but required - ocean does not count. Large, flat and open grassland will be your best bet, with minimum pit holes and caves.

By all means, please update this as much as you see fit! I haven't kept up with Minecraft over the years, and so I know that there's plenty of things added to the game that could bring this back to life. I'd love to see it when you're done!
I'd still like to continue updating it myself, but the reality is that I haven't been playin Minecraft much at all lately, so I don't know what else to add. So yeah, go ahead, I'm glad that you're the one that can take it over!
Le diamondz for you! :D
