first, the universe is expanding at an increasing rate. The basic knowledge we have comes mostly from theories combined with physics. This leads us with 3 possible scenarios of how the universe will end.



1. The Big Rip. The universe has been expanding a lot, and increasingly fast. New space is being created equally, so galaxies move apart. I will explain this in another blog about the Ant on a Rubber Rope Paradox in another blog (https://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/ant-on-a-rubber-rope-paradox/) the space inside galaxies also expands, but gravity keeps them together. In The Big Rip scenario, the expansion accelerates so much that this gravity can’t hold on any longer. At first, only large structures are affected, like galaxy clusters and then galaxies. They get torn apart because of this. Then black holes, stars, and planets dissolve. Laters, atoms can be torn apart, the universe dissolves into a timeless nothingness.

2. Heat Death, aka The Big Freeze. The expansion of the universe does not rip anything apart, but instead, radiation takes its toll on it. This is due to entropy, which i will explain in another blog. (https://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/about-entropy/) in a nutshell, everything ends up at equilibrium, and all energy is equally spread along the universe, creating nothingness. No, this is not absolute zero, and no, the universe does not stop expanding. I already explained this in another blog. (https://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/is-absolute-zero-possible) and another thing that happens here, is everything gets old and radiates away.

3. Big Crunch and Big Bounce. These ones are most uplifting. Imagine between Dark Energy and Gravity, eventually Gravity wins the battle, and the expansion of the universe reversed. Galaxies race at each other. And temperatures get hot as the universe gets smaller and smaller. Everything is ripped apart by the heat, and black holes eat everything and then merge into an ultra-massive black hole, becoming the entire mass of the universe, and then it devours the universe, including itself. The Big Bounce theory states that this has happened many many times, and that there is an infinite cycle of the births and deaths of universes.

so what will the fate of our universe be, well heat death is most likely, and makes the most sense, but theres no way to be entirely sure.
