A dark and cloudy night it was,
a dark and cloudy night.
I was all alone, it seemed,
my body filled with fright.
The leaves of trees blew in the wind
the fire crackled and flamed;
my dinner guest, he never arrived
my dinner guest never came.
"He could have gotten lost," I thought,
"While traversing in the woods."
I looked straight out the window and
between the trees, a person stood;
He was lit up by the lightning
but remained a shadowy form;
he didn't seem stirred by the rain
or the thunder of the storm.
I gasped in perfect horror as
I looked into his eyes.
They weren't like normal peepers, no;
they caught me by surprise.
They were white eyes, white eyes,
and they shifted as he walked
towards my house, my self
the window
and he just stared, and never talked.
The wind, oh, how it howled!
And the house, oh, how it shook!
as his white and emotionless gaze
permeated terror, look for look.
The wind built to a climax
till it was all that I could hear.
My dog next to me, howled
as that figure grew more near.
He was right in front of the window
and I shivered in my chair;
I am surely a goner now! I thought;
but all he did was stare.
Then, it was sudden, the sounds all stopped;
the howling wind, the crackling fire;
in fact, my dog grew quite silent beside my chair,
and this strangeness did inspire
me to look outside the window;
(the fire had gone out)
But the white eyes, they were gone,
and there was nobody about.
a dark and cloudy night.
