>>>Act I, Scene I<<<
Act I, Scene II:
[Enters KING, MABROCESSI, HUNTING PARTY ET AL. chasing a cow in THE PLAINS]
KING: Zounds! Must our starv’d miners
and weeping farmers mourning over dead harvests
be deprived of the sweet beef of our fruitless hunt?
MABROCESSI: Must our catch be worth
more than diamond armour?
or is it a sign from Jeb that we be denied
the meal of swift survival?
KING: It is but the will of men that
place and break the blocks on this land.
Thus, we should split – for our catch
will be greater than the sum of our parts!
MABROCESSI: ‘Till then, brother!
[Exeunt MABROCESSI, HUNTING PARTY ET AL;/size]
Enters PORKLET]
PORKLET: (aside)
Upon the plains,
Goes the disgrunted brother
whose kingship he lost in chains;
Now he tries the time where the king
he can smother.
(ad omnes):
Gentle king, you I approach
for you are the worth of the crown
and your broach.
KING: Hark, who is about?
PORKLET: ‘Tis I,
Porklet, pig of the plains
and the gentle grass that in green
blesses this land with life!
KING: Fie!
If I cannot claim thee, they’d call me lame!
Forgive me – you I have seen, and cannot un-see
Thou may damn me once or twice
but not thrice!
PORKLET: It is not that I damn
not thrice, or once or twice;
but of thy brother who hides
betwixt thyself and life
I damn one thousand times.
KING: Thou disgrace my house
and my kin??
Tell me why I shouldn’t end thee sin?
PORKLET: Listen here,
Good king – hear me well!
or else let in the nether to thy life
and be damned to hell!
[Exeunt all]
