Hiya, I haven't posted anything in a while but I'd like to share a clever thing I do in an up-and-coming RPG server that I work on.
In an RPG server, you often wanna restrict the basis of Minecraft, which is mining and gaining a resource monopoly. This is all well and good for a vanilla place, but what if someone has enough diamonds to arm and armor a thousand men?
Well, you'd wanna restrict access to that in an RPG where people do not have quite as much ridiculous power unless they have served a long time.
Now, in a server I work on, due to the nature of the landscape and the fact the land is untouchable without buying a plot for yourself, you cannot acquire things like diamonds and sugarcane.
So, how do we remedy this?
Trade companies. These are just a facade, like my personal emblem, the East Empire Trading Company. The companies are just server-owned shops that sell items such as sugarcane and metals at a set price. Diamonds are as expensive as they should be. Sugarcane isn't sold at a price that could make a merchant broke.
So, if you're rattling your head for a way to keep your unruly and greedy subjects in hand, and make sure resources that can have a monopoly placed on them are not monopolized, control these things yourself. Don't let people have so many resources that they stay on a throne of wealth all the time!
I hope this was a little helpful :)
