Hello there, ladies and gentlemen!  Are you guys ready for Week in Review?  Good, because this week I've got some really spectacular stuff to show you.  Please sit back, relax, and enjoy.  ;)

undefined

The best structure of the week was the incomparably epic Centurion, created by carloooo.  What’s so epic about it?  Well, for starters, it’s a city that incorporates a great neo-victorian architectural style, and the roofing is quite nice.  Oh, and also the city happens to be a tank.  A TANK!

undefined

What would possess someone to build a giant tread-mounted city with rotating guns and rocket launchers?  Probably someone who takes their national security very seriously.  They take it so seriously, that the very basis of their civilization is contingent upon having the ability to crush enemy states beneath giant tank treads, while blowing survivors to smithereens.

undefined

But let’s not focus too much on the simple fact that Centurion is a tank.  The architectural elements and infrastructure are amazing in and of itself.  The buildings are multi-colored, with excellent detailing, hanging lanterns, and towering chimney chutes.  The city itself is divided into three tiers, each supported by curved, metal beams and chassis.  The bottom tier even has a water supply, with bridges arching over a small canal.

undefined

The treads are one of my favorite features of Centurion.  Six axles with impeccably detailed wheels support a heavy-looking track of modular steel plates.  The way the treads curve and hug the wheels looks very realistic, and acts as a basis for the build’s gritty, intimidating appearance.

undefined

Then you’ve got the little details that really take the build to the next level.  The shiny sprockets, valves, ventilators, mounted machine guns, front plating, and cleverly placed headlights give Centurion a lot of character and give the viewer a lot to digest.  It’s truly wondrous to sift through all the various, immaculate details.

undefined

This is one of those builds that offers more than meets the eye.  It’s not just an empty shell that looks good on the surface, it has immense interior work, and layers upon layers of detail waiting to be explored.  It’s obvious that an insane amount of work went into this, and it’s even more obvious that carloooo had a plan to begin with (and boy was that plan executed with unparalleled skill).  Centurion is truly one of the best builds of the year so far.

undefined

The best terraforming of the week was a highly unorthodox terrain titled Celula, created by Dezd.  I’d like to point out that Gabersid also had a hand in the terrain, which explains why it has his signature, plume-shaped, swirling mountain ranges.

undefined

Celula consists of stacks upon stacks of earthy goodness, arranged in a circular pattern around a vast lake.  It doesn’t look like anything you’d find here on Earth.  There’s nothing quite so beautiful on this miserable rock (screw it, let’s move to Mars!).

undefined

The lumpy stacks of globular rock are adorned with hundreds of beautiful trees (courtesy of Plutouthere), that are rooted virtually everywhere.  Natural arches, pristine waterfalls, and an abundance of foliage bring this map to life.

undefined

This is terraforming at its most creative.  This wasn’t made solely with computer software.  There’s a very organic, hand-made feel to this map that makes it seem a little bit more unique.  It’s a style of terraforming that challenges the way we look at landscaping and pushes the boundaries of what shapes and forms an environment can take without looking ridiculous.

Ok, so this week’s organic map is some really manic stuff.  Prepare yourself, because the best organic work of the week is Cloudy Vintage, created by a veritable artist named Bedporsche.  This isn’t the first time this man has made something highly disturbing.  Remember that weird head with all the objects embedded in it?  Yeah, that was Bedporsche too.  Buckle your seatbelt, because you’re about to take a ride into the unknown nightmare realms of insanity.

undefined

Cloudy Vintage exists high up in the sky amongst the stratospheric remnants of somebody’s lost sanity.  At least, that’s my interpretation of it.  There’s lot’s to see here, including stacks of books, a window floating in the middle of the air for no reason (kinda defeats the purpose of having a window, but okay), an old radio from the bygone days of yesteryear, a coatrack with an oil lamp hanging from one of its appendages, a clock, and a scroll with the word ‘vintage’ transcribed across it.

undefined

What does all this random stuff mean?  Your guess is as good as mine.  Maybe this is a representation of how all our olden ways of telling time, creating light, playing music, and reading literature have been eclipsed and replaced by newer, more digital technology.  It’s all become lost amongst the cloud (pun perhaps intended, since our modern way of storing data usually involves storing it in a metaphorical cloud deep in cyberspace).

undefined

Of course, whatever theory you come up with to explain this inexplicable map becomes complicated when you consider that the centerpiece of Cloudy Vintage is a dude sitting in a rocking chair reading a book.  Oh wait, I’m sorry, I messed that last part up.  It’s actually a dude with a book atop his shoulders, with a human head in his hands.  So it’s a mutant, book-man reading a head.  Yeah, because that makes sense (no, it doesn’t).

undefined

It’s pure craziness, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t make you think.  Underneath the layers of insanity, I’m sure there’s some kind of message or parable waiting to be uncovered.  What the message is, ultimately, is up to you.  I’m not going to sift through this utter madness.  Do it yourself.  :P

undefined

But, in the end, this is some admittedly ambitious organic work with some thought-provoking themes.  Or, in laymen’s terms, it’s some cool organic work that’s really weird.  Bedporsche is clearly operating on a different wavelength than we are.  He’s either a genius or a lunatic.  Which one is up to a psychiatrist to decide.  I’m not academically qualified to make that decision.
