First off, this is MY Opinion, so you can't mess with that.

What happened? Minecraft has changed alot. I started playing minecraft 1.7.3 Beta. and it was good,fresh,peaceful.. and not alot of griefers was in that version. i joined most servers, they were all freindly.. they weren't looking for staff. and people won't leave in servers because they can't be staff. thats what is bad about minecraft today.. lets go back in the past... minecraft was EPIC at that time ((for me) because you can create alot of friends, and PVP wasn't VERY popular that day.. everyone would just build together instead of killing each other. it was again peaceful, good owners,, and good players. But now, DAFAQ?! every server owners just want players to DONATE to the server.. i even saw a video on YT that an owner said to a player to steal money from his parents wallet to donate to the server.. dafaq? Its a good thing mojang changed the server thingy, .. but, minecraft is bad today.. in my opinion. in the past, TEEN skins weren't that popular.. but today? WOW. it just changed .. alot.

I joined in 1.3.2, but nowadays servers scare me. Honestly, they do. Whenever I go on one I try to avoid people as much as I can. No, wait, that's just like real life xD

I have to agree on this one. Servers that have such communities are hard to find nowadays. They are still there though! Just harder to find. I was searching for a server with a good community for a long time and I'm glad I searched well because now I'm with the best community I've ever played with!

That coment is just a bit related to your blog but you know what´s good and maybe will bring back the 'old' minecraft feelings? That whole EULA thing;

I can see a future where there aren´t Quadrillion of PVP-Faction-Plotme-What-ever-Servers. Servers with a good playerbase are able to grow because servers, with owners who just want their players to donate so the owners can buy theirself some new things that aren´t related to the server, will probably shut down, which is good!

Stable servers will then expand to please the bigger playerbase. Probably there will be servers which please nearly all kinds of players. You, me, he, she, man even that PVP guy over there will have fun together. Building in cities or create your own city in the wild, Fighting in special pvp arenas where no one is getting really hurted, Hunting and mining with friends, whatever people wanna do they will be able to do it in the upcoming future!

You right. I'm a beta 1.5 guy, and that time it was all about building, I was on a friendly server, we built houses, castles...

and now? Only minigames, minigames and hunger games! The time changes...

It's not Minecraft. -_- It's the people playing Minecraft. The world has gotten worse and worse, and therefore all games have worse players. That is one owner, not all of them are like that. Servers need money to keep running!!! AND MINECRAFT IS STILL A GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT HAS ONLY GOTTEN BETTER! I agree on the skin thing, but not because of the teen thing. I hate how people no longer make their own skins. Mine is self made, and I'm happy with it. I will never, EVER, download a skin, nor up-load a skin to any website. So, I guess I don't really agree with you at all! And, PvP is one of THE BEST PARTS in Minecraft servers!!! (In my oppinion, of course) It pits people up against each other, with nothing but their skills. It's a death match, and it gives people from all over the world a chance to see whos better. Oh, and a word of advice, if you want to BUILD not FIGHT, then play creative. And, make friends with the nice people, and ignore the bad ones. And, if you dont like SERVERS, play in single-player. Simple. Don't blame the game. -_-

P.S.:This is all my oppinion, and I apologize if I sound rude, but I reaally needed a rant.

I am trying to recreate a lot of that original mc feeling on my server; people are nice and I don't charge donations. I think what happened though is that it just got popular, and it's what happens when games get popular. People interpreting the EULA as they did allowed them to set up servers that brought out, if not promoted, the greed in people; hopefully with the changes, server owners will have to do more of what it takes to connect with players on a more personal level and reward fairness in gameplay.

Nothing happened to Minecraft, besides the fact that it got better.

If you asked EVERY single Minecraft player wether they would prefer the old times or the new times, I'm pretty sure the majority would choose the new times.

If you miss building with people, go on a creative server. The communities are usually really great, with a few exceptions.
Don't like fighting? Go on singleplayer.
Want to build in survival as a team? Find a towny server.
Want to play beta? The new launcher allows that, so just get your friends and play.

EDIT: I joined in 1.7 Beta.

This is mostly due to the fact that good people play good games that are not as known first, and then the crowd of little kids, smart alecks, and yes stupid PVPers (I know one) come rushing in.

Things change over time, you should expect that. And your little dream of going "back" is not going to happen. The second Mojang put the diamond sword in the players hand was when it all started. When you give a knife to a kid what do think he'll do with it? You honestly didn't expect the thought of using violently wouldn't cross his/her mind once? And with that people started to become competitive. Once multiplayer came out, users could build together. They'd build their homes and then compare. And then they'd get upset at the fact that Player1 has a cooler looking house with a lot more shiny things hidden within it. So it comes down to a choice for Player2, learn how to become a better builder and work harder for those shiny things or slay the bastard and take it from him. Out of those two choices sounded easiest and more fun? So Player2 now has Player1's house and his valueables along with his old house. Player1 gets upset, yet begins to fear Player2. Player2 recognizes this and realizes he has power over another player. So if he can do that to Player1, why not to Players 3 and 4? He soon rules the game session with the other players at the end of his diamond blade. He then creates rules and a bigger house. He erects walls around the other Players so they can't leave. He has become the worlds first Minecraft server admin in history. And when others saw this, they wanted the same power, so they become server owners as well. And Plug-ins are made. And the owners needed help, so they recruited some moderators. And with twisted owners, come twisted ideas. "Let's see who is the best warrior in the server" "Let's see how users will react to us taking their things" creating many different types of servers. Movies, shows and videogames influence their servers rules and niches. Sooner or later we have a Hunger Games server. We are somewhere in 1.2.5 in the story. Minecraft has been the same way since 1.2.5 only with a few minor changes and additions. And through all this change, the diamond sword had started it all. And for you to go "back" you'd have to remove not only the sword, but the axe, bow, arrow, hostile mobs, TNT, ect. Mojang does not want to do make anymore people upset than they already have with EULA change. So to answer your question, that is what happened to Minecraft.

RapidFox said it below, probably the most ignorant blog I have read in a while. Minecraft has grown into more of a community now than it has ever been, mostly due to the server donations allowing people to create AMAZING servers, which mimic games, or create other games entirely. Minecraft has grown to a point where it is actually popular, which is what happened. Back in 1.7.3 Beta, things were boring and slowgoing, now things are actually fun to play and see how far someone can take the game.

ppft! For probably a year minecraft multiplayer was peaceful, probably only a month. Then people found out pvp and then the caois started. Servers need donations now to keep the server going. Back in beta you didn't need donations because servers could run freely but not these days.

Some of these things have been with minecraft for ages, just not as big as they are now.

Nothing really changed, and nothing is going wrong. It's normal for a community to change and find new ways of playing this game. And don't forget, a community is a group of people which means is a society. Societies change from time to time.

Lol.. you must be new. (only joking..)

Let's start this off.
With the simple idea of the interwebz. Sure, minecraft WAS peaceful and nicer back in the beta days but things HAD to change. Having nothing else but to build with limited blocks, PvP with no-one and no items to play around with, minecraft itself would've gone downhill. Limits is what people don't like. They had to add more items and blocks, they had to add enchants to PvP, so that people would be satisfied. As minecraft grew more popular, more and more people joined.

Meet the Griefer
Doesn't care about your hard work or time. Just loves TnT. Griefers can be in any game. No, they may not always destroy things but griefers can fall into the category of; Ruining the game with delibirate spoilers. Annoying hating or being abusive towards you, etc. Griefers just grief in general. So, though it may be sad to see minecraft being filled with them, it's not really mojangs fault for trying to attract more people right? The internet is filled with griefers, and they only grief the most griefable games ever. With minecrafts flint 'n steel, TnT, players whitelisted on any block, it's really easy to grief (unless you play mini-games or a really protected smp server like me.) So don't blame the game or the company. Blame the internet.

Meet the Hacker
Maybe you never mentioned this directly, but you did in a way. "What happened to Minecraft?" Implies griefers, trolls, PvPers, new stuff, complicated stuff and.. Hackers. Let's just say that hackers can't be stopped nor hard to find. They're everywhere, wether it be bank accounts, games or your PC in general. Hackers can't be stopped because there are 7 billion people in the world. Any one of them could be the hacker that's hacking at this moment. Aswell as the fact that the internet is a large place that connects alot of people. Hackers just want to either; Have fun annoying you or; Raise their self-esteem by doing SOMETHING or they just generally have nothing better to do. It's sad but, hackers are hackers. Minecraft WILL be filled with them.

Finally, the teens.
I'm actually quite suprised you hate them because they're popular. I mean that's no reason to go hating on them. People have opinions, and a lot of people like teen-skins. Aswell as the fact that skins are skins. A piece of data made into a model made to DRAW on. You're seriously going to hate on a piece of data? It's just something you wear ingame. No need to make a fuss about it. Of course I hate the copy + paste unshaded ones. The shaded original ones are pretty nice. The reason I hate unshaded recolours are because no effort was put it. Sure it's just some piece of data but at least make it appealing if it was made for appearance.

Minecraft hasn't really changed. It's just the fact it's attracted most of the internet that it got ruined. All the updates are great and you don't have to use the new items if you don't want to. You can't hate on the community for some people. Why should we give all the attention to the bad apples? That's what makes them happy. To see you rage and talk about them all the time. Stop encouraging them.

Hackers : want to have fun either annoying you? raising their self-esteem, or they generally have nothing better to do?

I would like to point out, it's not an opinion hackers must be very very intelligent to do the things they do, they are not the low-life fat morons who live in their parents basement (which most people think of when they hear "hacker")

I would also like to point out that if someone uses a hacked client, they are not the hackers. The individuas(s) who created the client are the hackers.

I would ALSO like to point out that their are many good hackers/hack groups (Like team anonymous for example..)

Let's see, what does one of these loser hackers do in their freetime?

-Hack 40 + child pornography websites and, taking them down and publishing the names of the people involved in them.

-Breached the database of Monsanto (Monsanto produces GMOs and supplied the US govt with Agent Orange during the vietnam war)

-Take down website "GodHatesFags.org" (If you agree with those crazy-ass homophobic religious morons who picket funerals with signs that read "God hates fags" please leave)

-WANK (Worms against nuclear killers)

These are just a few examples, you can find too many examples of hacks similar to this to fit in this whole comment section.

Also, i have brought this up multiple times, people "hate on" teens skins because the whole idea of teen skins is very unorginal, it doesn't matter how much effort you put into shading it, if you make a teen skin you probobly didn't put much effort into planning the skin/putting though into it/making it creative and original.

I was not intending to say anything against cracked/hacked users.
Some probably just use it because they don't want to buy MC. So they find another type of client. Hacked clients are free right? (Never used/looked into one before) Yes, not every hacker is a low-life living in their parents basements, some of them might even live independantly or such. But that in no-way changes the fact that they enjoy wasting their time to hack over VIDEO GAMES. In minecraft, hacking doesn't even need to happen. Minecrafts only £17. That's pretty cheap for a B2P game. I've seen much more expensive games. There's a reason why this game is B2P. Because it's a good game. It has endless possibilities. It's unique in it's own way. F2P games generally are grind-grind-grind. Except TF2. I like that game. Gamer hackers is what I was aiming at primarly. Most of the other stuff was just said to make sure that people know that Gamer hackers aren't the only hackers.

On the subject of teen skins.
Shading is effort. Depending on how much consideration went in and how good the shading is. Not every teen skin is an emo-haired, headphone creeper hoodie. That's just the stereotype. There ARE original teen skins. What. A monster or medieval skin, no matter how bad, can be original and a single teen-skin can't? Jesus, what do you people want out of girl-skinners/teen-skinners nowadays? What you're saying is that every teen-skin is a copy? I'm pretty sure some are made by scratch and some are original. I have a question, fine sir. Infact, two.

Define "teen" skin?
Define "original?"
06/18/2014 6:18 am
Level 7 : Apprentice Miner
I never said anything about Teen skins are a copy, i just said that i don't like them ANYMORE. Example, A teen skin (no shading) gets popular, and you go to the HIVE server, and most of the people who LIKE Teen skins are using them.. Who would like that?

Define Teen Skin?
Teen skins Are teens that are in minecraft, but uglier.

Define Original?
That basically means you created your own CONTENT. when no one made it before you, thats what you call ORIGINALITY.

EDIT : Hacked clients are for 9 year old kids.

When i said hacked client i meant something like Nodus, which allows you to fly/use xray/aimbot etc..

"But that in no-way changes the fact that they enjoy wasting their time to hack over VIDEO GAMES" I would like to say one thing, no matter what you do in a video game - you are wasting your life, it doesn't matter if you are hacking or playing fair, griefing or building, if the griefers have "no-life" neither do the builders.

I'm saying the idea behind each teen skin (i'm using teen skin as a general term, the term no longer actualy means "teenager" anymore) is not original, no matter what color their hair is or what design they have on their shirt, no creativity (I should say originality) went into creating it.

When i say "original" i mean something like creating a charactar with a nice original backstory to go with it, make a skin revoloving around a certain political issue, or make something really original and make a skin no one has ever seen or expected.

I'm not using "Teen" or "Orginal" with their actual meanings, i'm using them how they are used and meant on this website. I know not all teen skins have creeper hoodies and headphones, but the basic idea is the same and it's very boring (When i say teen skin, i also mean those girl skins i see on the pop reel every single day - 60% of the reel is filled with them.
06/18/2014 11:39 am
Level 28 : Expert Explorer
(When i say teen skin, i also mean those girl skins i see on the pop reel every single day - 60% of the reel is filled with them.
Then that's girl skins, not teen. Just throwing that out there. I hate it now that people are misusing the word "teen" and now use it an an insult or as a name for a type of skin. Teen is short for teenager and teenager is based on a certain age-group. Most of my skins are meant to be within that age-group, so I guess i'm a teen-skinner then? Yes. If I make skins that are meant to have young facial features, then it's a young skin. A.K.A teen-skin. You can check them out yourself and you'll understand better what i'm trying to say..

Anyways, I like how you replied
"I would like to say one thing, no matter what you do in a video game - you are wasting your life, it doesn't matter if you are hacking or playing fair, griefing or building, if the griefers have "no-life" neither do the builders" True.. but then think about the anti-socials or the social-anxiety folk. Telling them to go socialize is no use, so most of them play videogames because they enjoy it and don't have to meet anyone face-to-face. It's not wasting your life then is it? If sports was wasting your life you wouldn't do any physical activity but in this generation, being good at sports makes you recognized, which in my opinion is not fair for the ones bad at sport. They are ignored, so they go on video-games and are happy there. Are you telling me that everyone should be mainstream and should be a 2cool4school kid? If so, then please leave. I'm glad people are different. Maybe they would be into all the teenager activity if certain things were never invented but since they are, you can't really say anything. You can't tell a person what to not do and what to do.
