Why I think 1.7.3 Beta was the best point in Minecraft's Development...

This is just my opinion in why I miss the older days of minecraft and specifically the 1.7.3 update which I thought was where Minecraft was at its best point. But take note that I wrote this when the 1.6 Update came out. I explain why down at the bottom! anyway enjoy your reading of my opinions!

I recon 1.7.3 was the best and will always be the best point in minecraft. It has that adventurous touch and I love how the world would generate where you would always see something new and now its always, "Oh look a mountain biome.." Like to be honest there's nothing fun about how the world generates anymore. Mostly because you have already explored the different biomes and you know whats in store.. I really miss that feeling of exploring and finding something new around every corner.

Another thing I missed about the 1.7.3 Update and all the other earlier beta days was how the sun would set. It would set in like stages and you would know, "Oh crap I gotta get home!" Now with how you can change the brightness and the sun doesn't set in stages, you don't really have that urge to get home and not die. Also with sprint, I like it but I don't like it. It took away the feeling of knowing that there was something behind you and you couldn't outrun it.

One more thing that I deeply miss is the old sounds. The Door open and close, Creeper explosions, Throwing eggs or shooting bows, the old sound of cows, pigs and the nice simplistic feeling of all the other sounds. Now with the new sounds the game is becoming more realistic and not the adventure cartoonist type you would want in a game like this. Also the sound of the door sounds almost like a rabbit died.

Just I guess you could say minecraft isn't as fun as it used to be. Also with the fact that you cant have as much fun playing by yourself and you used to. also with all the servers, it was fun to go and play and meet new people, now its like you must kill, horde your stuff underground and just sit there hopping no one raids it. I miss when griefing was shamed upon on the freebuild servers and no one did it, and raiding and griefing servers were not op and the bases were more fun to raid. But now when you raid you have to take the enchanted stuff or the op things. I just honestly don't find that fun. You guys probably all have different opinions but this is mine so yea.

I guess you could just say I miss how simple and adventurous minecraft used to be...

With the new 1.7.2 Update, Minecraft has become much MUCH better and I've started to enjoy it more with the new biomes! they've added much more color and the exploration aspect of the game has sky rocketed! But I also didn't feel like editing the whole thing around the thought of 1.7.2 so yea.

This is so nostalgic. I almost cried reading this. Really, those were the days, minecraft was already popular back then, but nothing like it is now. It was still a small community who were enjoying playing with each other and now that minecraft basically is on everything, Xbox, PS, iOS, Android it just became generic and the new updates are a joke, i mean add some villagers and think thats gonna make the game better? NO. Seriously, after Notch stopped developing the game and gave it all to Jeb, the game died.

P.S. Playing since alpha, that was the most memorable minecraft, not because it was something new, but because it actually felt like a survival game where you had to mine and build your game. I miss it :(

I started in 1.4 so that is my favourite update. I remember building a mountain house... Of course I had to make the mountain to make the house. . _ .
I very much agree. And for the reason of agreeing i have decided to make a server with BETA 1.7.3,
Please search Beta-Craft
For the server.
I also have a 1.7.2 Server
Called Water-Craft.

Only reason I dislike 1.7.3 is that various things don't stack, no gamerules, no sprinting, and no natural regen.

After 1.2.5, Minecraft got insane. I like 1.2.5 best.
The problem isn't that Minecraft has changed, looking at what is being said here. The problem is that the group of people that play it has changed. At one point, it was composed mostly of people who were dedicated to playing the game to enjoy what it had for them, and to see what the limits of creation truly were. But as time passed. and Minecraft became more popular, it reached out to those other groups of players, those who play online games simply for the joy of causing other people misery, those who can't stand it and can't bare it when someone else gives them any reason to be unhappy. They are the ones who have either been given everything their greedy heart desired since birth, or who believe they should have been, and see no reason that it should change when they play Minecraft. If you think about the game itself, without the taint of the unfortunate groups that have joined it, you'll likely find that you enjoy it quite a bit more with all of the new content.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've played minecraft since right after beta came out, and I have to say... 1.7.3 was indeed the VERY best version. It was wholly satisfying. The feeling of find ONE diamond, and then the fear of losing it as you walked as fast as possible back to the entrance and avoiding any dark area. The sickening haunting when you hear something behind you after you have no more food and on heart left. Overall - 1.7.3 was the best. I love it.

Never played 1.7.3, began in the 1.2.5 update which will forever be my favourite. But I also hate the faction servers and power and raid and griefing and how mean the minecraft community is getting over time... I hate it when you beat someone in a mini-game and they turn round and swear at you or rage or call you a 'noob'...

I agree with you, I like to go back to older versions of minecraft and just..play. I loved the feeling of fear at night when I was on my last heart and being swarmed by mobs and had to make a dirt hut. The feeling when I had to look up crafting recipes for bread, not fireworks or pumpkin pie. Now, I feel like when I have full diamond enchanted, built my world with everything, and explored the deepest caves it feels... unsatisfying. Even though I update my minecraft each update to get the newest blocks (I like to build) the older versions are and will always be my way to play minecraft.

Seriously, the new versions sucks horribly. If you joined in beta or alpha, you would downgrade like we do.
There is no reason for playing the new "official" versions. Certainly not for servers, because the community now is 90% impulsive psycophatic kids.

I remember in 1.7.3, I had a little house on a beach, and I found a lot of gold. So much I made full armour, 3 toolsets, and still had stacks to spare.
I had never found diamonds. Ever.
Best. Memories. Ever.
I'm giving you a diamond, but it's not from my 1.7.3 world XD
I totally agree. I play 1.7.3 all the time instead of the newest versions. 1.7.3 was the last great version of minecraft. with 1.8 it lost its adventourous feel. even hard is too easy now.

I downloaded the 1.7.3 JAR because I felt nostalgic. In the end, I preferred how Minecraft turned out.
Couldn't agree any more <3
First: I agree with the sounds, I loved the old sounds! They remind me of when a friend first showed me Minecraft. It brings back memories when I hear them.
Second: I also agree with the servers. Now with donor kits and enchantments, I can't set up a good base without a guy with a god sword sneaking up on me.
Eventually, 1.7 would get boring. Like everything else overtime it becomes boring. I'm kind of tired of seeing these posts. They're mainly for views... I mean if you love 1.7.3 so much, you can still go back. Tons of jars files, and other stuff. If you love the noise, there are tons of resource packs that have the sounds etc. I mean think about it, what other reasons do you have other than it was a classic time period. The reasonings that you are giving are not any reason to think it's better. Personally, Command Blocks revolutionized Minecraft. We wouldn't have half of the amazing maps that we have today without it. That's the peak of the Minecraft, do doubt. I don't know what reasonings people have other than it was a classic, again. But if you think about the facts, it definitely wasn't. Trust me I was a beta minecraft player, and enjoyed it and all. But I believe that if you think about the facts, the command block update was 100% the best update in the game.

I agree. My personal favorite is Official Release 1.2.5
Minecraft 1.7 Beta was when I first started playing minecraft, and was the most fun for me as well. Back then, almost everything you did was fun and original. You could actually feel good about the house that you built without mods allowing people to create much better houses in 10 seconds. Back then, I was very interested in Java coding, and I made lots of mods. I made my first planet minecraft account in 2011 and became one of the most popular coders on the site. The day after I reached level 52, I was banned from Planet Minecraft because my mod submissions were "copies of other people's work". What had happened was all of my mods had been remade by different people so many times, that the PMC moderators thought that I was leeching someone else's work. Sort of retarded of them seeing as all of my mods had come out months earlier than all of the mods that I was "copying".

I agree that MC was the best in the beta, but I think it's for the best that it's growing. As long as we don't have to stay with one update and can go back, I'm happy on my flying naturally spawned island in the sky in 1.7 Beta
The best world I ever had spawned in the minecraft universe was in minecraft Beta 1.7.3. I also too miss some of the sounds that minecraft had back then, like the doors and such. I don't know, I like the newer versions, but I feel that my greatest love for minecraft was back in the older days of its development.

I joined in alpha 1.2.0_01, and then it was a completely different game. All this changes and seeing how everything has changed, at the time even a mob farm wasn't invented, but i'm still happy with the newest versions, there are some stuff i dislike, like being able to skip the night and all the mobs, and ores much easier to find, but the game is still great, it still has tons of possibilities!

Look man, I hope you read this, but I literally thought I was reading how my mind thought lol, if that makes sense. You're exactly right. Ill start with singleplayer. Well I joined minecraft at 1.7 beta. Not long after I bought the game it came out with 1.7.3. I havent had as much fun on minecraft as I did in 1.7.3 to this day. Singleplayer was almost like it was you and the wild. It was the perfect definition of Survival mode. Now Survival mode is actually kind of defined as Adventure mode I think. Minecraft is to complicated now. The need to stop adding structures, biomes, etc. Its almost like theyre trying to just think up stuff now, just so they can have more updates, I used to be ecstatic when an update came out. Now I almost dred it. I dont like having to try and keep up with all this crap theyre trying to fill updates with. The worst thing they ever did to minecraft was when they added Creative mode as an option of choice. It ruined the game, it ruined the fun, it ruined the discovery, it ruined even wanting to get on a server for the sole purpose of possibly getting creative. True minecrafters are people that played back when minecraft was all, and only about SURVIVING. Now the last thing. SERVERS. Servers are almost all minecraft is about anymore. Its not even about MINING...or CRAFTING...Its about being noticed. On minecraft now you cant think of an idea that hasnt been thought of, and people when I first joined minecraft were kind, and nice, and people played on servers to help others survive and build together, it was so cool. Now all ppl do on servers is chat, or play minigames spleef, pvp, i mean all sorts of crap, and Theres not a person on a server now a days, that doesnt soley care about staff, thats all anyone wants is staff, can i be admin, can i be mod, thats it...And its so annoying, I HOPE YOU READ THIS, ANYONE, AND EVERYONE, IF YOU LIKE PLAYING ON A SERVER, DONT TRY AND GET TO STAFF, STAFF IS BORING, AND TAKES THE FUN OUT OF THE SERVER, YOU FLY AROUND AND BAN PEOPLE, THATS IT. And no one, and I mean NO ONE, has had fun, FUN! (Fun), on minecraft unless you played Survival, when thats all there was, Survival, And you found that first diamond, because that was the only way to get one, on survival, finding it, Level 12. Not going to creative and getting all the diamonds you wanted to on creative. I mean you actually found one on survival, and it was the first one you ever saw. Thanks, and I hope some of you newcomers to minecraft read this and remember that.
