What if you could smell Minecraft?

Have you ever been to a 4D theater? Often times, the seats will move, or water will be splashed in your face, or smells will be piped into the room.
What if we played Minecraft like that? What if you could smell the earthiness in the air when it rained, or the sulphuric stench of an exploded creeper?
The thought came to mind when I was eating some fried chicken while playing Minecraft. In-game, I cooked chicken and ate it, making the whole process amusingly immersive. I built on that, and wondered if I really wanted to go as far as getting wet when it rained, or feeling the arrows of skeletons to my face!
Imagine the 9.4.1 update, bringing new sensations and feelings to your holographic Minecraft experience. As you play, your internal computer keeps track of what is going on in the brain, and releases hormones related to your gameplay. Melatonin if it's getting late, adrenaline if you're being hunted, dopamine if you complete your house, or get an achievement. It would also simulate sensations like pain, pressure, smell, taste and spatial awareness.
What could we do to Minecraft to make it scarily real?

Edit: Pop reel! Woohoo!

I think it would be very hard to implement smell into Minecraft unless 1: there was a certain attatchment to make it so you could smell your computer, wtf, and 2: you could just make your character smell it instead. Concluding my post I say that could be very interesting.

I heard of that magical mod! I heard that it's very dangerous though... I heard that it adds rapists, drug dealers, and that it's less blocky.

I can just imagine how realistic Minecraft would be with your smell idea, an HD texture pack, and the Oculus Rift. That would be too weird for me. Fantastic idea though!

If you wan't my opinion, this won't happen for a VERY long time! It is a wonderful idea but I don't think computers are capable enough to keep track of your brain. It would require a expensive headset. Instead, how about there is a machine, that will monitor what your character does in game. When it's raining, the machine will spit out a little mist, not enough to harm the computer of course. And when you splash in water, the machine squirts water at you. Of course you were thinking more out of the box by adding feelings. I think that would be a little too extreme. It would be cool, but there would be downsides such as addiction...

I wouldn't care much for smell, but rather the heat (or lack) in certain areas, like extreme heat if in the nether, cold in a taiga, etc.

That is actually a lot more realistic than smell. If you had like a pretty efficient AC or something that could change the temperature in a room in just a few minutes, then it wouldn't be unlikely that you could control it from your PC. Actually there are many ways you could do that, with both hardware or software. If a modder made a mod that would send a signal to another program with information like a number or something, and then you could make that program send information through bluetooth to a motor that you could put into a homemade device that you could attach to the AC and the number would determine how many times the device would press the upper button or the lower button and if the program could remember the previous numbers so that it knew what temperature the AC was currently set to, then I think it could work out fine.

We should at least include a way to turn the pain and senses off in case we don't want or like them.
Especially if we're playing minigames that involve getting hurt alot or killed and respawning.
Don't want anyone having seizures or curling into the fetal position because of all the pain they feel while playing minigames...

Actually, now that I think of it, playing games and achieving things probably releases dopamine naturally. Dopamine is your brain's 'feel-good' hormone.

I actually wouldn't mind trying out a system that simulated actual pain. So if you get hit by an arrow, a small contact attached to you is electrified. Have you ever touched an electric fence? Probably something a little less than that.

Obviously you wouldn't have the settings duplicate real life exactly, but you would play the game very differently if you were avoiding a zapping.

That would be really cool, but I feel would get tiresome after a while. Like, "I want to swim across this lake but then I'll get soaked'. Or "Better not shoot me again skelly, it hurts!"

So then you would play Minecraft like real life. You would use boats, or build bridges. You would never, ever go out after dark. I feel like Minecraft currently is too easy. People will take damage and just eat up later to heal. With a system like this, it could make the game much more enjoyable.

But it also could make it much LESS enjoyable. I mean, say I'm a noob. I just started playing Minecraft but don't know much about it. Nighttime falls and I get repeatedly killed by monsters because I didn't prepare. I don't know about you, but feeling that pain for real isn't what I would call enjoyable. xD

True, it would be more for experienced players, of course. After all, you probably don't play Hardcore style, do you? Eventually, you'll get there, but for now Hard is definitely good enough.
The same would apply for a system like I described. Have you ever felt the zap of static electricity after you put on a sweater and touched metal? Maybe it would start out at that level.

I could totally see something like this in the future, and you have a point that it could make things really cool. I would say that playing Minecraft of peaceful would be quite fun with the smell thing.

Well I think it would be cool for other people, but for me it would be useless as I don't have a sense of smell.
