Hi there! Welcome to our Minecraft thesis blog!

Who We Are

We are Alden Go, Margaux Perez, and Johnny Talbot, undergad Computer Science majors from Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) in the Philippines, and we're here to share our thesis project entitled WHICEE: A Study on the Migration of WHIMC from Minecraft Java Edition to Education Edition.

Our Thesis

This study is based on an existing project called "What-If Hypothetical Implementations in Minecraft" or better known as WHIMC. It was created by a team of researchers from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). This project has an ongoing collaboration with the Ateneo Laboratory for the Learning Sciences (ALLS) which we are under for our thesis in university.

WHIMC aims to generate STEM interest among students through unique Minecraft world simulations based on different earth science and astronomy topics. The scope for our thesis is to migrate the WHIMC worlds from Minecraft Java Edition to Minecraft Education Edition (MC:EE) and test the playability on the new platform. We brought the game over to MC:EE to make WHIMC more accessible for students, especially in the Philippines.

Try Out WHIMCEE on Minecraft Education Edition

We are making WHIMC on MC:EE (better known as WHIMCEE) available for play to the general public.

You may download the WHIMCEE .mcworld* file here (you may see 7
files but you must download it as a whole .mcworld file by clicking on ‘Download’ at the top right corner)

View instructions on how to download and access Minecraft Education Edition and play WHIMCEE here

*.mcworld files of WHIMCEE can also be played on Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Thank You

We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Maria Mercedes T. Rodrigo and Dr. Jenilyn L. Agapito for being our thesis advisers and Mr. Jonathan D. Casano for being our thesis panelist. We would also like to thank Dr. Jeff Ginger, Dr. H Chad Lane, and the entire WHIMC project team from the Ateneo Laboratory for the Learning Sciences (ALLS) and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) for their valuable support and insights.
