Usually when I go on a Minecraft Server, doesn't really matter what type, factions, town, vanilla, I keep to myself, I don't team up with anyone. People may think that is weird or silly, but I do have a valid explanation for doing this, here are my reasons
Reason #1: When I build my base, I have a certain way to build it in my mind, but when a person joins with me, I don't have the time or the way to explain how I want it and they usually do things that COULD mess up the entire base, I am very picky at how my bases go, especially on towny servers. I try not to be rude about it but with me having an anger condition it is a little hard lol.
Reason #2: This is mainly on faction servers, if your the leader type like I usually like to be on servers, and you make a faction but you want a few people in your faction, when I first started playing Minecraft, I'd let anyone in my faction cause I thought everyone was oh so nice, I quickly learned the mistakes of my actions that day, as I got griefed and killed by my own faction member. This is another reason I usually go lone wolf on faction servers, but occasionally I will invite people I REALLY trust and that have been my friend for quite a while, but other than skype friends and real life friends I invite nobody.
Reason #3: The saying goes, "The more the merrier" I personally don't agree with this ON MINECRAFT. The more people you have in your town, faction, etc, the more you have to share, your animals, crops, land, resources, mine, and basicly everything you have. For example, say your partner, builds a house while your away, when you come online you see this, maybe you were planning to put a big nice wheat farm right there, but your a nice guy/gal, so you don't say anything, you only think in your mind "d*mn*t".
Reason #4: I personally have been betrayed by so many of my "friends" it's unreal, so nowadays when I go on a factions server, I think to myself, "trust nobody but myself". This saying has helped me not get griefed so many times, it is also unreal. Also say you invite someone to your faction that is a sworn enemy to another faction, boom, achievement get, a very strong enemy that wants nothing but to find your base and obliterate it.
By the end of the day on your server, people may think of you as a "jerk" or a "punk" for not letting them in your faction but remember 1 thing:YOUR NOT THE ONE GETTING GRIEFED TODAY!
