For the last few forevers ago, I've always been curious about something. Why is it people use other peoples skins? Are people unsure about their ability in creating their own skin, or are they devoid of any artistic creativity. Ever since I became a skin maker back in Alpha, I've stuck by my own little code: Never wear a skin I didn't create myself. I only have around 140 different skins created. I choose to wear my own thing or randomly take a request and test it out. But I absolutely refuse to wear something I did not make on my own. But yet others have no problems with this. Why? I can't figure out their reasoning behind why they would wear something they didn't make.

Over the last two years, I've seen so many people wearing and making variations of my zombie pigmen. Nether version, original version, or some modified variation, people still use it frequently. Or heck, even the zombie style I came up with gets frequently used for characters.

Maybe someone out there has an answer that I can understand?

Hm... I think I partly agree on this one.

My first skin was a Zombie Enderman, no-one else (I don't think) had made one before and posted it on PMC, so I decided to make one. It was more satisfying than I imagined, and it was pretty fun too.
I actually liked seeing the downloads go up, and thinking of other people enjoying the skin that I spent time to create. But then I realised most of these people would just go and find an even BETTER skin, and they would just keep on changing it.

But I still actually like the fact that people would download my skins and enjoy them, even for a little while.

What I dont like is people editing your skins without your permission as skin owner and then posting it as their own. (Happened before) That, I believe, is just lazy. May as well make your own skin.
And also usually the editing is really crude and crappy, eg: Non-shaded sword on the back

Aaaanyway, so basically I think other people using your skins is okay, but editing and claiming something as your own is not. Just my opinion :)

Funny I found this blog...

I went from the person who used everyone elses skins, and never made my own, to a person who made skins, but still never used them. From there, to the person who then used their own skin, and now have the same sort of question. But with some thought, I have a solid answer.

I (like I said) always used other people skins. The main reason for it was I though making skins was incredible hard. And honestly, when I went to make my first skin, I was right. But this was for a slew of reason that is was so hard, main one being that I was using paint (yes, I know, dino program for skins). Anyways, due to my issues with making a skin and my "Oh, my skins sucks compared to this skins!" thought, I just stuck with using other people's skins. But, once I found skinning programs (I don't know what the first one was I used...but I now use MCSkin3D) I started making skin none stop, and I know what I'm doing, and I actually know how to make a skin, and (not to be cocky) but I've made some awesome skins.

So, to answer your question directly: people get discouraged. Running around with a skin you think is crappy, that you made, just makes you feel like..well...crap. So people just stop making skins due to this. Heck, I almost stopped due to some of the skins I saw on here! But people do it, and sometimes, for the wrong reasons. I've seen people stop making skins when joining here, and their skins were pretty good even! But all in all: it's the discouragement from doubting our own ability to make skins that ultimately cause it.
